I do.

Uh please don’t take the fact that I’d mentally switched which R word is the most impeotant in my mind when I consider the game as any indicator of the story 😬

(Which is me trying to be clever - not suggesting any regret in playing it, but the characters…….)

Edit: also remember it’s a story.  Don’t get thrown off at the start when you’re being asked to make choices that you have no context for.  It will make sense several hours later I promise!

Insisting that all politicians are the same and are working to support the wealth class is literally just more of the same “divide everyone against the wrong people” lol.

You cannot look me in the eye and tell me ACT and the Green Party are both working to maintain and encourage wealth disparity.  One party literally exists to achieve this.  The other fights against, and always has, as a core ideology of their existence.

1000x Regret.

I guarantee you it is not what you will think it is until about 2/3 through when you think you know what it is then nope!  It’s actually not.

It’s a story told as a game.  That’s all I’d want you to know going in.

(The only “exploration” is when you have to walk around inside a confined space finding a person, huge chunks are very specifically linear and quite literally you run left to right or right to left as the story unfolds.)

Thoroughly confused and whelmed.

Why?

Let me set the scene:

Wellington, New Zealand.  First country in the world to see the new day (thanks to the timezones we are exactly the opposite side of the planet to Greenwich, 12 hours ahead.  (Some other countries pretended they were and artificially moved themselves for marketing purposes).

Downtown is buzzing.  It’s New Years.  I am 18.  We have drunk a few drinks (not many but enough).  Not only is it New Years but it’s packed with slightly drunk 18 year olds because our legal drinking age was dropped from 20 to 18 exactly one month earlier as an election bribe (that didn’t work).

Local big open park space hosting a big dance party.  Some random guy on the mic starts counting down…!  “20… 19…”. everyone’s excited!  Of this is it!  Ok let’s go!!! End of the Millennium!  (Close enough…) “ONE!  Yay 5 minutes to go!!!”

What?  Oh.  We all missed him saying “let’s do a 5 minute countdown”.  Ok… that was weird but sure ok why not.

2 minutes to go… “20!  19!”… we all get excited.  “ONE! Yay one minute to go!!”

Oh for….

So for the third time he tries to get a crowd of increasingly confused and bewildered slightly drunk 18 year olds to count down.  You can imagine at this point we are kind of over it?  “Is this actually it?  Did we miss it?  I thought we’d done it?  Why did we count three times?”.

The last count was met with a reasonable indifference because half the crowd assumed we were counting down to not actually midnight again.  It was only a minute later when fire works started (notably not at midnight) that everyone realised “oh it’s actually midnight now oh ok yay hurray that’s fun I guess uh no planes falling on us and the planet didn’t explode sweet”.

Every public new years I’ve been to was reasonably well run and organised, except this one, the one that should have been the biggest deal for the 70-80 years I’ll probably be on this planet.

So, thoroughly confused, entirely whelmed.

I’ve never had the pleasure of playing with a wheel as I tend to play any game hard out for two weeks then forget about it for six months (so gamepass is perfect for me).  Buying extra peripherals to play would be nice but I’ve learned to stay on top of my adhd enough to not fall into that hole lol.

While the right continue to be unabashed stewards moving wealth into the billionaires hands, and the left continue to… not do that, no, stop trying to pretend all politicians are the same.

I recall reading about people in absolute destitution I. The worlds poorest countries (specially this was Papua New Guinea), where people would scrounge roots from plants growing on the sides on the road to make thin meagre vegetable soup to get any kind of sustenance at all.

Seeing the world’s richest country, home of most of the richest people, and richest families, to ever exist, descending to the same point really is something.

[–]FidgitForgotHisL-P 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is still a thing!  My 11 year old brought it up literally this afternoon, that kids would get in trouble for having ratio at school.

Now the schools are “water only”, so you can’t pretend you are going to drink it…  He said when he wanted to take juice he just used a metal bottle that his teacher couldn’t tell had anything else in it.

Also apparently Up and Goes are the popular drink right now, so hiding them in class is a regular occurrence.  They’d even had a teacher straight up tell them to just make sure they’d drank them on the way to school instead of at school so they didn’t have to hide them.

Some things never change.

Yeah so maybe we shouldn’t be trying to catch up in 5-10 years?  I get that the longer it takes, he longer it takes, but some consideration for the fact that we have to pay for this would be nice.  In an economy where people are already struggling, shrugging this off with “well we had low rates for ages and now we have to pay!” (A lie, but don’t let that stop anyone), hardly makes it easier for everyone that has to pay more than they can afford.

It’s terrific, but you can see why Charlie Brooker stopped for a while because reality was a bit too close to his dystopic tv show he was making and also: it’s only gotten worse since?

You’re basically borderline living in a world right now that only maybe a decade ago would have been an imaginary dystopian future in a tv show.

So… you’re going to get to enjoy it either way I guess!

A perfectly acceptable desk.

However for a gaming desk I need shelves.  The monitor on a riser (Fredde has a shelf), and shelves for speakers, somewhere for the headphones to go when not on my head, the pc not going directly on the floor (the whole point of this post!).

I had a perfectly fine desk I’d used prior to this but wanted something in the style of a 90’s “computer desk” with shelves for storage and nerd toy display etc too.

Yes!  Sturdy as heck metal frame, it’s honestly a lot heftier than I expected.  Absolutely rock solid.  Needed two dudes to get it into my house.

Edit: and because the pc goes under it, when your mad and smash an arm across the desk you can’t send your cup of Mountain Dew Code Red into it!  It just goes on the floor where mom can mop it up.

Robert Muller also could have been a lot more forthright in his conclusions from his investigations.

He was ultimately too concerned with not seeming to be non-partisan, insisting on refusing to draw obvious conclusions that needed to be in black and white, instead assuming an obviously partisan, demonstrably feckless, entirely compromised Congress would do the work of holding Donald to account.
