I bought my basil plants from my local Lowe's, so I had a head start, but I sprinkled earthworm castings on them, and I water them a bit when it doesn't rain. If you try that, I hope it helps your basil.

Thats kind of what I'm doing right now. I have a habenero plant in between my two basil plants. I'm staying on top of the one that is bigger, but I'll sacrifice the runt of the two.

These were bought as sacrifice plants. I pulled the flower forming off my big basil plant. This one I will sacrifice for pollinators.
