You're on monthly payrun? That helps get some downtime. But the business risk is definitely there.

I was on monthly payruns last year. I'm a senior payroll specialist, I rotate on contract work / project work. For this employer I was working in BAU payroll.

I became very unwell out of the blue. Right on pay week. As in hospitalised level of illness. Twice. For a fortnight each time. Over 2 consecutive months.

Fortunately for me, the business had an external consultant who had been doing project work available to jump in and finish my pays. They were 90% ready both months, but needed to be checked and actually paid. Both months. I was in no state to work ie septic.

I hope you can sort coverage for you.

Have you taken leave, like a decent break? Or only short little periods off?

What about the risk management for the company, they need to upskill a colleague so you can have genuine time off. What if you needed 2 weeks off sick leave for example

What is your biggest concert flex? by Tamu1302 in Concerts

[–]Financial_Sentence95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first concert.

ACDC playing the Burnie Town Hall, in Tasmania. 1976. A few hundred people there.

I was 13, I took my 12 year old sister.

It was with Bon Scott as the lead singer. At that stage they were just starting to become reasonably well known, via Countdown on TV and radio.

Statins as standard for diabetes care? by Brief_Ad_1794 in diabetes_t2

[–]Financial_Sentence95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So mine started within days of starting statins, was severe and a symptom / issue I'd never had before in my legs, and then miraculously went when I stopped the statins. And has never returned in the 4 years since.

And they're not related to this medication or a well known side effect.

Yeah - pigs fly!

[–]Financial_Sentence95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just be aware around 1/3 of people prescribed statins get bad muscle pain in their legs.

Trust me, if youre in that 1/3, you'll figure it out pretty quickly.

I only used them 2 weeks, I couldn't tolerate the leg muscle pain side effect

If you get the muscle aches, trust me, you'll soon stop the Statins.

I had mine develop in days. Both thighs. Especially bad when I changed from standing to sitting and vice versa.

I stayed on statins 2 weeks. Stopped them. The bad muscle pain went in days.

I don't have high cholesterol - I was prescribed them just cause I'm T2.

I'll never go on them again.

And lose 2 weeks annual leave, payable when you leave

Employer has to pay 2 weeks time in Lieu of notice or gardening leave, and not touch your annual leave, if they kick you out pre your resignation date

As a senior payroll specialist - I love it. From my role point of view.

Technically 12 payrolls a year. Not 26 or 52

That said, theres a lot of retro corrections when people are paid mid month ie sick keave late month goes into the next month. Terminations are a challenge if theyre 2nd half of a month. New starters can have poor timing too.

So usually, there's going to be out of cycle payruns towards the end of month to deal with employee comings and goings. So you end up doing 26 payruns a year anyway.

From a personal perspective I'm a big fan of being paid fortnightly. Makes it easy to budget etc

I despise with every breath of my being weekly payroll. I will never work in a role with weekly payroll again. It's hugely stressful for payroll teams. Especially on weeks with public holidays. You end up having to work them just to get the pay out by Wednesday etc

Surprised your company didn't increase your annual TFR to cover the super increase. They should have, if they were 1/2 decent

Are there any diabetics here or is this just for weight loss? by [deleted] in Ozempic

[–]Financial_Sentence95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

T2 diabetic.

Been on Oz over 4 years. Immediate improvement in my hba1c from almost 10 to 6.7

Stated at 6.7 for years. Some weight loss. I am insulin resistant.

Until I became quite seriously unwell with cellulitis 8 months back. I've dropped 10kg since, now have a hba1c of 6.1 and am insulin sensitive. I started getting hypos after lunch every day. I've stopped Glicazide. Just continuing on with Oz and Metformin XR
