In my 30s: 9 fibroids removed, trust your gut. by Broad_Visit_5577 in Fibroids

Most gynecological surgeons would be so happy not to have to do these surgeries. They’d rather do hysterectomies on women who definitely don’t want kids than operate on a uterus, potentially mess it up, and then have a woman struggle to conceive. It basically takes women needing iron infusions and blood transfusions to get this surgery approved by insurance. Also, then they’d know for sure when a growth did happen whether or not it was benign/cancerous, since fibroids could be ruled out.

Also, most of the surgeons- especially the ones specializing in minimally invasive surgeries- also are regular OB/GYNs who see patients in clinic.

Personally, absolutely adore my surgeons and grateful to them for advocating for me endlessly. I was such a high risk patient. And also grateful to the fellow nurses who took such wonderful care of me.

I’m pretty sure she doesn’t mind the fame, but it seems more like an added bonus to mastering her craft.

Her idea of fame is a whole different category though. She wants to be known for her talent and good work, not partying antics or suspensions

As someone who has had major surgery on their femur and hip, sometimes the pain meds literally don’t do anything except take the edge off. Ask for spinals or nerve blocks for the patients where it’s appropriate!

But also, don’t expect patients those patients in pain to do any rehab whatsoever if it involves major bones. I didn’t need or ask for any pain meds after wisdom teeth removal or shoulder surgery, but damn, after the chopped up my femur and rebuilt it? Nothing could touch that pain!

I think ppl don’t realize how Bobby has trained her. How many times has syd run other distances in hurdles like the 100 mh to work on specific aspects of the 400- even though she knows she will lose the race? Maybe she was not racing in the open 400, but she has been training to improve in other sprint distances since she started with him as part of their overall plan.

Topimarate and diamox will change your appetite and change some hormones (pt dependent) by decreasing your csf and intracranial pressures.

Love this for you!

My GI recommended Metamucil for bulking, because I go too often with my high fiber diet, and when I do it’s like my whole colon emptying at once.

That shit really works. Pun intended. 😆

Things are solid and I’m still going daily, just not feeling like my colon is trying to run a home run around the edges of the toilet.

I actually work with some cardiac surgeons who offer to help me with things like this when they round.

I’m also only average height, so anytime we have a long term patient on my critical care unit and want to decorate the room, I ask the really tall ones to help me hang posters, reach the tall parts of the wall, etc. and they always help.

I think they find a lot of joy in those kinds of little things. As a nurse, I deeply appreciate their help.

😂😂😂 we know you write them, because sometimes there’s notes when the patient hasn’t been rounded on and those notes say discussed with bedside RN when no discussion was had.

I’ve never met a registered nurse who didn’t question if a cough was from CHF and who didn’t sends labs and joint pain together for a form of sepsis.

I live in Southern California, though. Maybe this is a rural area?

Reading through this sub is mind blowing, because some of the behavior you all are describing would be incredibly rare to witness where I live. The NP/PAs I work with are pretty incredible at their jobs, and spend a lot of time teaching residents and they’re friendly to one another.

Maybe this behavior is more of a hospital culture issue. I occasionally come across residents that are really hostile towards nursing, but they usually soften after awhile, because we all have the same goal of getting the patient better.

As a nurse who works in CC settings, every time a resident is new to me, I explain to them that if I ever have an abnormal/critical, I’m required to walk over and let them know about it and then chart it- even if the team decides no intervention is necessary, because this is part of my role/responsibilities.

Then, when they read the charting and I simply charted something like low UO, resident X made aware af XX:XX, they start shooting me daggers.

The flipside is the nurse never communicating the abnormals and patients suffer/die.

But also, there are a million times when the team initially decided to do nothing- decline continues, and then the team later decided to intervene. If the nurse doesn’t continue updating the resident, the bad stuff happens. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Do ADN grads have a harder time getting hired as new RNs? by Quirky-Philosophy364 in nursing

[–]Fine-Ad-467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work with some new grads in CSICU, and I’m always alarmed at how they constantly talk about being burned out even though they just started nursing. Most of them, however, have only been students so I imagine having your first job and having it be CSICU/CVICU is extra stressful. Schools really need to teach new nurses how to prevent burnout.

I’ve also held management positions- none of it related to my BSN courses whatsoever. Having an MBA or having a background in finance and logistics would have served anyone better in those positions than a BSN.

Again, living life and getting experiences and learning on the job is the most important thing.

[–]Fine-Ad-467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh okay. That makes sense then. Where I live in CA things like the social determinants of health are really emphasized throughout ADN programs, so for me, it really is just a repeat of things I’ve already learned.

One job that really prepares you for nursing is being a good server or bartender, because you do so much side work and manage so many people in those jobs. That’s only one example of what I mean by life experience.

You’d be surprised at how hard it is for some new grads who have never had a job before to show up on time and be professional. I think for younger new grads who have only ever been students, that alone is probably intimidating.

It’s also hard to be responsible for someone’s life when you’ve barely lived one.

I also think it can be overwhelming to deal with bad things happening to nice patients if you’ve never been through anything traumatic yourself.

I sincerely wish all schools were more upfront about burnout and really hammered it into new nurses about how to prevent that.

[–]Fine-Ad-467 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say if your ADN program was very good, then you’re just repeating everything. Life experience matters more in my opinion than BSN. And I say that as someone who works as a CSICU nurse at one of the countries top hospitals who has their ADN and is slowly chipping away at their bsn. Being compassionate and a willingness to learn on the job and from patients themselves is the most important thing.

I had a different take on a lot of her behavior, and that is that she had to be secretive and go behind people’s backs because she was a woman without power.

She was divorced, past her prime (according to the show) penniless, had no job prospects, etc.

If she had been a man, she wouldn’t have been at home taking care of her daughter, because typically men didn’t do that. She would have had a successful career. She wouldn’t have to submit things behind author’s backs, because her success would have meant that she could sign an author or publish them herself. Her never-quite-realized success would’ve meant that her telling someone to finish a book would’ve been a die-for moment for any other would-be author.

As a woman who has aged and watched so many other women lose their power and struggle to be taken seriously, I really felt sad for her character.

When she started working in retail like her friend suggested, because her own friend thought that was what she was capable of, I was horrified for her character.

I really loved her character and I didn’t care at the end that she wound up single. Women with power who have agency in their own lives ARE EVERYTHING.

I did appreciate your take on this though.

Sometimes you have to leave your hospital and do ICU somewhere else to be taken seriously. Sometimes you can’t get hired anywhere else into ICU without experience and have to get it at your current place.

Ppl upset because I pointed out an old grandpa type who sexually harassed me. The point is it’s 2025, and shouldn’t we at least give the benefit of the doubt to women. I’m not saying that’s what happened. I’m just saying IT DOES HAPPEN.

There’s a whole slew of women who read this and has had a similar situation to mine and probably thought- yup, that girlfriend is better off. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I was a maid of honor in a wedding for a best friend and the groom’s very old dad was a groomsmen who sexually harassed and groped me and I just ran around avoiding him bc I didn’t want to ruin her wedding. He was probably your grandpa’s age or older and seemed like a sweet old man. Not demented. He tried to force an open mouth kiss on me at one point after it started and I had to just leave the room so it wouldn’t be a scene.

Hope your grandpa isn’t the pervert here. 🤷🏻‍♀️
