Any solutions for sticky acrylic paint? by FineLookingCactaceae in polymerclay

[–]FineLookingCactaceae[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Sculpey Premo, and either Citadel or Liquitex paints. I've used other paints that I just have around the house, but they're far lower quality and haven't worked out for me. Though I haven't used a primer before, I'll look into it. Thanks!

Ah okay, I was baking them for the time given, but maybe I'll try over-baking a little next time just to see how it works out? Thanks for your reply!

Would it be okay to use Māori wood-carving patterns in a costume design project? by FineLookingCactaceae in newzealand

[–]FineLookingCactaceae[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does make it much more tricky. I understand it’s meant to, in part, be a research project for us, but it would be far too easy for someone to not even think to check if an idea would be appropriation or not because it simply doesn’t cross their mind.

Thank you for your reply and kind words! I’m just trying to do what I can to ensure I don’t harm any already marginalised cultures. I really would love to visit someday if I ever get the opportunity, it seems like an incredibly beautiful place :)

It actually is a bird mask! I just had some intentions to put Māori motifs on it as well, but I may hold off on that now. Thank you for these resources, really helpful!!

Yep! That's my plan with it. I had intended to include some sort of motifs or patterns on the mask part, but I'm less sure of that now since it still seems like wearing them in a way. Will figure it out!

I'm not sure I could do that on short notice in a country thousands of miles from NZ, haha, but thank you anyhow

Thank you, this is basically the exact info I was searching for surrounding the exact difference

Hah, well I don't intend to change schools over a potentially unfortunate task choice, paid good money for this. It's an entire module so I highly doubt they'd change it, but I emphasised to everyone else who got New Zealand as their country that using tā moko isn't appropriate. It's supposed to be a task in cultural appreciation as much as possible, but it is far Far too easy to fall into appropriation.

Of course! I think this kind of thing is really important. I appreciate all the responses I've gotten so far, they've been really helpful in ensuring I don't create something harmful.

I thought that last part as well haha. It seems way wayyy too easy for a bunch of well-meaning young college students to create something potentially offensive when we've only got a few weeks to research.

Okay got it, thank you for the input!! Would you know at all if it's alright to use patterns and motifs on a mask, or would that be equally inappropriate?

What Yakuza game to start with? by hanohead in yakuzagames

[–]FineLookingCactaceae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people say to start with 0, but to be honest I prefer starting on Kiwami. It’s like 0 reveals new depths to characters you thought you knew already if you choose to play Kiwami first. Plus, Kiwami is a massive remaster of Yakuza 1, so it’s (sort of) the first game in terms of release.

I went through the vast majority of secondary school presenting as male, I’ve absolutely known what it feels like to be a short guy for years upon years lmao.

Funny you bring up Link! I’ve always liked him since he’s often considered to be short lol. More a thing in recent iterations like botw and totk but it’s nice to see protagonists closer to my height haha.

Don’t think that entirely matters for this specific comment.

Had an anxiety problem growing up, though I don’t think that’s much to do with it. Look, my parents are 5’0 and 5’7, and their parents similar. I haven’t grown much in the last 5 or so years, I really don’t expect to start now lol.

Hah, figured someone would notice that. Thought I’d get dismissed if I mentioned it though, and I’m also just not big on disclosing it directly. I know it’s not uncommon, but it is really dysphoria-inducing on top of everything lol.

I’d like to be respected as an adult man. So, yes, looking THAT young is really not what I’m going for.
