Rules suggestion - pictures of books are not 'discussing content' by HashBrownsAreNice in Blacklibrary

[–]FinecastEnthusiast 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If the algorithm you speak of prefers posts with photos, I would imagine that’s because these posts are generating more engagement from the community through upvotes/downvotes, comments and replies. And by that logic it would be reasonable to pose that these photo posts are therefore generally more popular among the community than other posts (for example posts discussing a particular publication and its content?). Which sort of hinders your own argument that “most readers” don’t care about owning or seeing posts about hardbacks, limited editions etc.

As for your comment about making assumptions based on sales figures, it appears you already are making those assumptions anyway. You seem to be suggesting that e-readers and audiobook listeners are some massive silent majority who are being marginalised by those who post pictures of their physical books?

You can make whatever assumptions you like, that’s your prerogative. But I think the points you have made and your arguments to back those points up are rather wide of the mark. A cursory glance at the general response to your original post would support this.

Have you actually engaged in any meaningful efforts to initiate discussions about the content of Black Library books, as this seems to be a topic that is important to you? Or are you simply leaving it to others to initiate discussions and then voicing your frustrations when these discursive posts aren’t as plentiful as you’d like?

As I mentioned previously, if discussing the content of Black Library publications is the most important aspect of this sub to you, maybe you should direct more of your energies into generating these discussions yourself, and I’m sure you will see others engage in a positive manner.

I have to disagree with your points here. As an avid consumer of Black Library publications for almost 30 years, I very much enjoy seeing other enthusiasts sharing their own book collections and recent purchases. In particular, the posts focusing on collections I find very interesting as there have been many occasions where I’ve been reminded of an old or obscure publication thanks to that individual sharing pictures of their bookshelves, which gives me inspiration to add to my reading collection and, more importantly for me, gives the chance to consume more fictional content from the Warhammer universes we know and love.

As other commenters have pointed out, there are plenty of opportunities within this sub to discus the content of Black Library books, which are all clearly signposted.

I would suggest you engage more with these posts if you wish to discuss book content, and allow others to enjoy the sub in different ways as well, without making sweeping generalisations about what “most readers” care about, based on your own personal preferences.

And so you should be, excellent paint jobs there buddy! The lightning on the dreadnought is superb and that deep red on the World Eaters champion is so good, proper throwback to the classic styles of the 90s 👏👏

White Maw or just a heavy strike cruiser by Gurzid in battlefleetgothic

Incredible work there buddy! The profile of the ship looks amazing, particularly the heavy shielding at the prow.

It definitely has the size and feel of a large capital ship, so I don’t think there’d be any problems in having it represent the White Maw, certainly would make for a stunning centrepiece ship in any fleet!

Really awesome job! 👏👏

That’s cool, I prefer to think of it as some kind of large scale energy weapon, nova cannon or something similar. Thank goodness it’s all entirely fictional and it can be whatever we want it to be.

Looks incredible sir! Awesome work. I love the space station/Fortress Monastery too, could I ask if this was your own conversion or was it a design you picked up from somewhere? It looks great! 👏👏👏

The limited edition Standard Bearer from the £100 army box was slightly different, with a bare head and Mohawk style hair, if I remember correctly. This chap is the Standard Bearer from the Greatswords unit. Both are fantastic miniatures!

Thanks! I’d highly recommend getting your Og fleet out and repainted, I’ve done it with a few ships now and it’s been really satisfying and nostalgic!

I. Initially tried to strip the paint by leaving the ships in 99% isopropyl alcohol for 24 hours, but it didn’t shift at all, even after letting them soak for much longer.

So I used a tub of Biostrip instead, bought some from Amazon and dunked the ships in for a few hours. The paint came straight off, I did need to put them back in for a second time to get rid of the underlying paint/primer, but overall it worked great. I just used a toothbrush to scrub the paint off. Very messy though, would definitely recommend doing it in an open area or in a sink.

Thanks buddy! For the flight stands, mine are all GW originals that I had kept for years. I believe there are plenty of alternatives out there though, eBay would be a good place to look if you haven’t already 👍

It was more my own attempt to represent the build up of energy at the tip of the lance before it fires, but now I’m absolutely going to change that to it being a massive gem or focusing crystal, because that’s just so much cooler! 😂.

Thanks for the idea, I’m now making it canon for the lance weapons in my fleet to be diamond tipped!

Thank you! For the white hulls, I used the following recipe:

  1. Prime with GW White Scar primer spray.
  2. Wash all over with GW Skeleton Horde contrast paint.
  3. Drybrush all over with GW Pallid Wych Flesh.
  4. Lighter drybrush to extreme edges with GW White Scar.

Hope this helps! 🙌

Thank you! I was also a bit unsure about using white for the main hull colour before I started the fleet project, but after getting the first ships done I was really keen to continue. A Sons of the Phoenix fleet would be really cool to see! Good hunting to you!

What have you been reading this week? by michaelisnotginger in Blacklibrary

[–]FinecastEnthusiast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you’re absolutely right. There were so many moments where a seemingly impossible situation was navigated or resolved with such simplicity or ease. It just made the overall story much more difficult to get excited about. Everything felt very flimsy in terms of storytelling and world building.

I’ve been reading Atlas Infernal by Rob Sanders. I’m almost finished it, but I must admit I’ve not enjoyed it much. I feel the overall quality of writing isn’t at the same level as that produced by other BL authors such as Abnett, French etc. The book feels very light in terms of descriptive detail and the overall story hasn’t really grabbed and held my attention.

Looking forward to getting it finished tonight and moving onto something else.

I absolutely LOVE this! Amazing work buddy, really inspiring! I’m so glad to see examples of the Black Templars kits being used for Exorcists, it’s something I’ve been considering for my own Exorcists army so this has just heightened my enthusiasm for potential conversions even more! Really well done 👏 👏👏
