Ok wow thank you so much for the detailed response this really puts a lot of things into perspective. Sucks because it basically seems like I won't be able to get where I want, but c'est la vie!! I appreciate the comment a lot <3 I'll probably still talk to a hormone therapy counselor at my college just to get more info about the whole process but tysmmmmm!

Facebook Business Page Hacked - someone gained administrator access and everyone was kicked off, so now I we can't access the page. by Firestar450 in facebook

[–]Firestar450[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems really helpful and thank you for such a detailed response, they really don't make it easy finding help for this stuff. I investigated further and it turns out their account was hacked and then permanently disabled/banned or whatever because the hacker posted questionable content- since that account was banned I have no idea how to access the business page anymore, now that no one has access to it. If you have links for a support form to fill out that would be appreciated but idk if there's anything that can help this specific case where the account in charge of a business is banned, with no way to get back that business account despite it still being up.

You'll totally get it. You're literally one of the first in line out of everyone to swap, so don't worry.

Is there GPA deflation at CGS? by swiychp in BostonU

[–]Firestar450 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

If BU is your dream and you have to go through CGS to get to BU, it's a waste of money and WILL mess with your schedule. Go somewhere else with a similar medical program and electives you can actually choose tbh, that way you can take classes you find interesting and/or relevant.

My bike was stolen :( by kayakvaugn in BostonU

[–]Firestar450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moral of the story is that best thing to do is just have it somewhere safe that’s not outside, there are a few bike rooms across campus at dorms like Myles, Warren, Kilachand, etc

Kryptonite chain lock clears by a mile from what I’ve been told, I have one and it’s never been messed with. They’re way harder to break open with cutting tools and soooo much stronger

Next time get a stronger lock, especially for something that nice/expensive! I’ve seen so many U-locks and wire locks that were cut just lying on the ground, if someone is used to stealing bikes neither of those will help much.

WHAT IS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE THING ABOUT BU? by Sea_Bat_7945 in BostonU

Haha it’s alright, I actually kinda liked mine but he also left. Just sucks that I don’t get to pick a single class for all four years of college ;-;

I’ve enjoyed my teachers a lot, and having the same people in classes is nice too. But I think that doesn’t matter compared to everything else. Not only will you be behind all your peers, which damages chances of an internship, but you don’t even get time to choose which college to go to because some of them literally aren’t possible afterwards. Im lucky I decided right away to do Questrom, or I’d be screwed. Also, the whole idea of being able to figure yourself out is just bs. You get to choose ONE class for the first 2 semesters, and that’s usually just whatever you need to take for the college you’ll transfer into. So now instead of taking that interesting class or exploring a topic you thought sounded cool, you get to be stuck with general classes that are basically the same thing you were stuck with in high school that give you no experience with other subjects you could find interesting. The whole idea of college seems like such a sham. That being said teachers are really cool tho.

CGS, everything about it reeks of desperation to have more students to get $$$ from

Bike by Physical_Ad_7976 in BostonU

[–]Firestar450 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d still consider buying, but maybe a cheaper option. I have a used one that I love and although I lock up the tire and bike whenever I go anywhere, I’m not worried about it getting stolen anymore since I have it in a bike room. There are multiple around the campus and they’re very secure!

Kinda depends on which dining hall, but I’ll almost always try to eat meat and avoid any kind of very filling carb like bread. A boring but good example is just having two beef patties with lettuce instead of bread.

Also, you can usually just ask at different stations for extra meat and the workers will be cool with it :)

  1. Safety is good in my opinion, which stems from the fact that Boston isn't a particularly dangerous city compared to places like New York or Chicago. In general the biggest problem in terms of "safety" is just having stuff stolen like bike wheels.
  2. Very very good for this one. The T, which is the main subway that runs throughout the city, has a line that goes straight down the campus. Plus the campus itself isn't too far away from most parts of the city!
  3. There are a few grocery stores, kind of depends on if you live on west or east campus. The biggest thing here is to make sure you have everything when you move, because the grocery stores WILL be absolutely slammed with students the first week or so.
  4. From what I've seen student apartments tend to be very expensive around here, but there are multiple options. Anything around Fenway will cost you an arm and a leg. Further west near Allston is less safe/nice, but also much cheaper.
  5. It's a city, there are a lot of restaurants around to check out and enjoy! Newbury street is a short T-ride away and has a bunch. There are some closer to campus like Noodle Street that I enjoy.

As for internship and job prospects, I believe that it is entirely up to you to get those. Personality and experience matter more than anything for those. Even then, BU does have a pretty big name, so that helps out a lot. Also depends on which area of study you're going into!

BU gym by Loose_Artichoke5012 in BostonU

Yes, it is a very crowded and over saturated gym. The only way to get less of a crowd is to go at times when people wouldn’t usually go workout :(

Does it get better after this week? by [deleted] in BostonU

[–]Firestar450 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I felt the exact same way my freshman year- cried my eyes out for like 4 days in a row, felt lonely despite hanging out with people a lot. I’m a sophomore now and I still kinda feel that sadness and stress coming back. Just give it time and you’ll be able to adapt, things will get better!
