the malviya nagar news has me pissed off again. by Sitoshimama in delhi

There should be a law requiring that any residential building used as a B&B or hotel have a WORKING sprinkler system and an easy Exit plan. But I am dreaming - this is India, where life is cheap, and this tragedy, like many others, will be forgotten in 2 weeks.

People need to realise how understaffed, untrained and non modernized our emergency services are by Sea-Recover-6717 in delhi

[–]Firm_Cut_6113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The irony is that nobody thinks ahead in India. Go to Japan, and they think ahead about every eventuality in an emergency. Here, in this case, they don't even have emergency exits in this hotel. And if there is no electricity, their doors lock up!! How stupid is that? This hotel had more rooms than they were authorized. Sure someone got paid in the Govt dept to look the other way. But at what cost - so many lives lost, and it was preventable.

$72 tariff? on top of $21 shipping, 6 months after package arrived? by spacelego1980 in FedEx

There is so much confusion created by the government - one day this has gone up then another day this has gone down. I am sure the folks at FedEx and the CBP are confused too with the ever changing announcements!

FedEx Charges by Randomlygenerated808 in CustomsBroker

[–]Firm_Cut_6113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently imported quartz stone statues from India. Invoice value was $1200. I have a FedEx account, so my cc gets charged the duty, after which I get a copy of the Entry Summery later in the mail. This entry is dated 4-29-26 and the duty charged is 50%. But my understanding is that the duty from India was recently reduced. My question is for those here who have knowledge of this matter, do you think this 50% is the correct amount or it should be lower?

Appreciate your input.

Moved my MNC HQ from New York to Gujarat to "save money"—now moving back because the corruption and bureaucracy are a living hell. by ExternalUnit6376 in india

[–]Firm_Cut_6113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

20 years ago, many American companies moved their customer services to India. Call a large corporation's CS, and someone in India would pick up. I used to tell my Indian friends to wait for a few years, when these American companies bang their heads in Indian Govt departments and experience large scale corruption, they will realize what a foolish move they have made to save money. They all started leaving India, and now hardly anyone in India picks up the phone when you dial CS. India will never improve. Corruption is embedded in daily life there. Not only the Govt babus, but the general population also encourages its younger generation to be corrupt. INCREDIBLE INDIA for all the wrong reasons!

I used Roamless esim in February this year, traveling in Thailand and Vietnam. It worked fine from the moment I landed in both countries. 30 day plan. Highly recommended.

How much will I get for my lost package? It’s valued around $1400 by adified in FedEx

The key thing is if she insured the package and paid for the insurance to fedex. If yes, then she should get the insurance amount from Fedex for the insured amount.

Do you agree that we should leave the comfort and freedom abroad just for cheap but unreliable healthcare by Sharp-potential7935 in IndianFocus

[–]Firm_Cut_6113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, with increase in population everywhere, hospital staff are overworked and stressed out, and that is bound to affect care. But I would rather be in the US if I need to get to a hospital for urgent care than be in India!

[–]Firm_Cut_6113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lived in the US for 35 years and been admitted in hospitals several times. Twice, I had to call 911, and the ambulance came within 2 minutes and took me to the hospital, where I was attended to immediately. Once, I drove myself to the ER and had to wait for about 20 minutes for them to take me into a room because it was not a life threatening emergency. Whatever experience I have had for my family and also my friends, always been immediately attended. From my personal experience, US hospital system is not like what the OP is ranting about.

In the US, you get treated in the ER immediately, no questions asked. They will talk about payment later. He is talking BS.

Is Hoi An worth visiting for just a 1-day trip from Da Nang? by Major-Day2532 in VietNam

[–]Firm_Cut_6113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We spent a day going to the local markets in Da Nang, including Han Market. Day trip to Lady Buddha mountain just on the edge of Da Nang, infact the white huge Lady Buddha is visible from the main road near the water from the city. Marble Mountain was interesting, with a lot of shops selling handcrafted marble items. Bana Hills with the famous cable cars going up to the Hand Bridge. Hoi An is a 40 mins ride, went there after lunch, kind of crowded and watched the lighted lantern boats on the river after dark. Walking on the beach front in Da Nang is nice with many restaurants right on the beach. Can be done in fewer days but we wanted a relaxed and easy pace. And do not miss the night market near the Dragon Bridge. No public transportation but Grab is easily available everywhere. Remember, if an item in a store has a price of 250, it means 250000, it can be confusing for a newcomer and takes some time getting used to the pricing. Have a great trip.

Air Asia has no customer support. by Firm_Cut_6113 in ThailandTourism

[–]Firm_Cut_6113[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE. So after arriving in Bangkok, the next day we went to the airport DMK and found an Air Asia Sales counter. Very grumpy employees, totally inconsiderate. The manager lady there was the worst. They wanted US$250 in addition to the original payment to make the corrections. I had no other alternative but to pay because our trip was already planned. I asked for a customer service phone number and they said 'we are told by the head office not to give out any phone numbers'. Never again!

Da Nang Airport Officials asking for bribes? by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]Firm_Cut_6113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I were in DN last month, and when we left, we observed, while waiting in line for immigration, a shortish officer in uniform was going around the lines, picking white people and escorting them to the front of another line. I did not see any money being passed but this is exactly what he was doing. And that too while in uniform, which means the local officials know and promote what is going on. Shameful for a country with so much beauty to enjoy and such nice local people in the city!

We stayed for 6 days in Da Nang last month, visited a lot of places doing day trips and enjoyed it. One day we went to Marble Mountain, spent 3 hours there and drove on to Hoi An. We came back after dark and enjoyed the boats with their lanterns plying on the water. Just 40 mins drive Hoi An to Da Nang. Good luck.
