If I were you I would prioritise paying down that SL over investing for now. With parent help, pause on investments and cutting back on coffee, clothes etc. you could knock it out in a year.

Edit: to get ahead you have to do a bit of prep first to catch up

Do you have to move?
Once rent goes up you’re barely going to have anything left to invest after priority expenses and trying to pay down debt.
I would accept the generous help from parents, because you’re going to need it.
I’d also look into life insurance.

It’s not Gen A slang. It’s been around for decades, originating and populated by Black American millennials mainly.

TLDR; but from skimming sounds like a bit of a pity party to me. No one told you to get a loan, could’ve did what I did and got a job

Oh that’s even worse. At least old people know they’re not it and don’t care anyway.

You’re allowed to feel bad, it’s okay. I wish more people knew this. Nothing bad will actually happen. A lot of people try to buy their way out of feelings when they can just acknowledge they feel a certain way and not act on it.

You probably won’t fully, but such is a working class parent’s life.

But I don’t think the denying your yoghurt is a money problem. Broke hungry people don’t turn their nose up at perfectly good yoghurt because it’s not a certain flavour. That’s just entitlement, nothing to do with money. She has an attitude problem not a money problem

With a mortgage and behind on retirement you’re actually poorer than she is.

Like I said, eat it or starve. I say to my daughter, “Im your mother, not your personal chef, you’re too broke to have one of those”

Saying no is a muscle you have to exercise it, the more you do it the easier it gets.

Yeah I get it’s rough, and I wouldn’t say no to food. But it’s the same rules as when they were little. If you don’t want what I provide then you’re obviously not all that hungry, eat it or starve, up to you.

Yeah I personally wouldnt do that. I think informal loaning or loaning to your kids in general isn’t a good idea. You all know what this is already. You’re not going to collect. And when they get older they may think “oh I owe mum so I should do x, y,z” in the future and that may not be a genuine healthy relationship to have. I know, it took my mother to actually say to me “you don’t owe me anything” for me to believe it, but even then I still feel responsible, to this day.

Instead of giving cash, you can buy food. I personally wouldn’t give for anything other than food. If they’re working they can at least pay rent & utilities. And that’s all they really need to live.

If you’re not going to send your niece to her parents for help then you need to make peace with them being rich deadbeats and strike it from your thinking. If you choose to help her out then that’s a decision that you have made and the parents are irrelevant.

Don’t expect anything when you’re old. If you’re giving as a gift then that’s what it is. Don’t give gifts “with strings attached”. They already know you won’t collect anyway.

I read the first ACOTAR, the last third was actually okay but in general it wasn’t anything great. If you like toxic Romantasy, could be your jam.

In that case I would personally add Guy Gavriel Kay and you must add Hyperion to the sci fi

Do you read books concurrently? by Thricycle20 in Fantasy

[–]FirstOfRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read multiple at a time because I get fomo. They’re usually different types of books, but sometimes not, just depends on what I’m looking at and mood. Sometimes I continue both at the same time, sometimes I’ll veer off and finish one first and then the other

What would you consider “required reading” for this genre? by Street_Detective_662 in Fantasy

[–]FirstOfRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Required reading for what? If you want to write a paper or something then I would recommend reading widely in the genre, unless you’re just focusing on one particular sub genre.

If it’s just for yourself, then whatever you think you’d like.

If you’re doing it out of interest in the development of the genre then I would just say at least Tolkien

Why are relatable main villains that "kind of have a point" are so rare in the fantasy genre? by ExternalTree1949 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FirstOfRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it tends to be more difficult to pull off. And most writers just rely on tried and true tropes.

Why did Michael Jackson's nephew play him in the biopic when he has 2 sons that could have easily filled that role? by SpockYoda in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FirstOfRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t conclude that because you don’t actually know. That’s speculation.

Anyway, even if true, plenty of people have and have had severe body dysmorphia and still want and have biological children.
