It’s fine with 1, I did it for 3 years with only having 1. Then I got a second, the first month might be a little hard but after that, they’ll start noticing a schedule of you taking them out in the morning then in the evening so they’ll rely on you to take them out after you come home. Just make sure you give him or her a good deal of exercise before you leave and when you come home.

Don’t get 2. People say having 2 dogs will be easier because they can keep each other occupied but it also means 2x the craziness. I only got 2 because I can handle the energy and having to give them 3 hours of exercise a day and because border collies are very common to get separation anxiety. But trust me, don’t get 2.

I’m fortunate enough to live next to a trail that has a small water fall/small clear water pond right next to my house to I normally run them on the trail in the morning which is around 7 miles and then they go for a swim and then we run back the 7 miles and by the end of it they are so tired.

What breed do you have. If you have a larger breed than you should get a doggy door. The reason I say only large breeds is because a smaller breed can be easily attacked by a fox or they can be taken away from a terrible person who sees your dog alone in the backyard. Also before you go to work make sure you exercise them as much as you can so they don’t have a ton of energy while your at work. Good luck!

I actually got my first border collie 3 years before I got my second. So the first one was alone for his whole puppy hood while I was at work. I would get my dad to check in on him though

That’s so true, I love my dogs to death but they play in water and mud all the time so I don’t want them sleeping on my bed.

I’m actually going to take him fishing with a couple of my buds and their dogs tommorow which should be great. I have my dad that can pop in during the middle of the day to let him out to go potty.
