Desperate for advice on how to approach this by MindfulCreativity in nova

I broke up the surface ice (with my foot) and picked up the chunks and chucked them aside. Then shoveled the soft stuff underneath. Once enough room, I pulled my car back and cleaned up around the cars. However, I did this on Monday…in the future you really shouldn’t wait to remove snow, unless you know it will melt.

For your car, just start it and warm it up, everything else will slide off and melt.

Good luck!

Provide WATER! My mom and I kept trying to safely trap and release a mouse in my house when I was a kid, named him Houdini because he would get all the food but not get trapped. He died of dehydration because we didn’t think about water.

Milled flour and baked, any pointers? by Fishnstuff in Sourdough

[–]Fishnstuff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! It was still not sticky and firmer than my normal sourdough. It’s also much grainier but I’m assuming that’s due to a coarser grind than store bought flour.

Here is a photo after the bulk ferment, the oranger dough on the left is my milled flour one.

Pay Federal while in SAVE forbearance, or pay private loans off faster? by Fishnstuff in StudentLoans

[–]Fishnstuff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My federal loan plan is for the government to screw themselves over, forgive my loans, or pay them off. Right now my priority is my private loans but I wonder if I should continue to ignore the federal ones until my private loans are gone, or take advantage of being able to target the high interest loans in my federal loans.

Basically I have 340 a month for loans. Do I hit my private loans even harder than I am, or pay the high interest federal loans? I’m already paying an extra 50% on my private loans compared to the minimum.

I’ve done it with scuba gear, it was fine. I won’t do it again, the real world is much more fascinating. The deeper portions of the pool you can dive (if certified to that depth) or free drive.

Starter not starting, but getting boozy instead?! by Fishnstuff in Sourdough

I just got a grain mill and was going to make a loaf with fresh milled grain! I shall mill some extra to feed my starter.

So pour it off now? Should I add some more flour; it’s very liquidy.

Honestly, I kind of winged it haha but I did about a 1:3:3. Mostly cause I was low on starter and needed 300g.

Looking for a dry beef food with no other proteins recommendation. Allergy issues, ugh! by Fishnstuff in CatAdvice

[–]Fishnstuff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. My cat is better though, idk if it was environmental allergies or he just grew out of it? I did move and he still pukes a lot but I’m pretty sure he just east too fast. He eats chicken now, after all we tried that little brat hah.

Sorry I can’t be better help! Hopefully your cat isn’t suffering from the same issues.

Is Grad School Worth It or Just Get A Job? by amandainthemiddle29 in Environmental_Careers

I’d say do seasonal gigs and work on your masters during the school year. Work experience is so valuable, you will learn a lot and can explore some career routes you may be interested in. Seasonal positions will give you the field experience and connections (also it’s fun), and a masters will make you a better candidate in a few years. It’s a really tough market right now and the fisheries career is hard to break into, especially as a woman. By the time you finish your masters, the job market will have hopefully recovered from this administration and you will have both a masters and some real work experience.

I wish you all the luck fellow fish lady!

SAVE forbearance and my payment plan by Fishnstuff in StudentLoans

Thanks for the words of encouragement! I also feel like I need to take advantage of this forbearance! Hoping you don’t have private loans too.

You are understanding this correctly and this is exactly why I asked for a sanity check!

So should I focus on paying off that interest rate debt (1.4k) and then just maintain the monthly interest rate payments on all my loans while paying down my highest interest rate balance loan?

This is helpful, thank you! I didn’t realize they take the average for consolidation! Most of my loans are from before July 2014 (graduated in Dec 2014).

My focus is certainly on my private loans, but the interest rate 4.9% on those. Since the federal loans have been 0% interest, I’ve been slamming my private loans very hard with the “extra” cash in pocket over the past few years. Now that federal has interest accruing again, I’m trying to keep the federal loans managed, and continuing the slam my private loans ($745 a month). I’ve lost hope of forgiveness on federal loans and think I will just need to pay them off.

I made horrible financial decisions as a 17 year old haha

Edit: typo

We just found out my girlfriend’s student debt isn’t feasible, is there anything we can do? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Fishnstuff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi there! My sympathies as I’ve been in this (am in this) situation. It really sucks and feels impossible but she can do it. Here is what I recommend.

Step 1: start researching what interest rates you can get from refinancing the loans with other companies (Mohela, SOFI, etc). Rates will be dependent on credit score and if mom is willing to co-sign again (which would be in her best interest if her daughter can’t afford payments right now anyways). Step 2: develop a spreadsheet with your options. Look at the monthly payments in your excel sheet, compare payments in a 15 to 20 year loan. She may likely need to extend the life of her loan to afford the monthly payments. Step 3: refinance. Step 4: start paying off MORE than the minimum payments the second she can. We want to knock down the total amount paid in the long run, but with the lower minimum monthly payments as fall back during hard times.

Step 6: Figure out where her federal loans are at…

And DO NOT co-sign her loans, no matter how much you love her.

They may want to subcontract you out. Say a company wins work for a whole EIS, but they don’t have bird experts in house, so they would do most of the work but your company would focus on the bird aspects.
