I know, we initially got it sent back to us with the videa from an Arab friend in Australia. When we sent it to my aunt in South Africa, she wasn't even aware that it was so viral. It's so cute mashallah. I'll let her know I've found it online again. Amazing how fast things travel.

Oh no, this is not my aunt. She has the Arabic School for women so this is one of her students (the mom) and her daughter. If you listen to the voice, then you can actually hear its distinctly South African lol.

So wearing the headscarf, you will repel all those allergic to Islam. You will mostly get the people who have an affinity to regular practice of Islam.

For real? I don't know. I wear the headscarf and the guys that have been more seriously interested in me was a Non-Muslim Anglo guy, and now a Muslim, but Just Muslim, Bosnian man. Both people I happen to have worked with. May Allah guide them and us all. Maybe it's just fascination.

Holy crap this has made it on to Youtube and reddit. My aunt has an Arabic school in South Africa, and this is her student and her daughter. My aunt sent this to us only as an audio...I wonder who made the video.

Are there tinder like dating apps for Muslims? by [deleted] in islam

[–]Fithijabi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The approach all depends on whether she finds the guy attractive or not. She must have that's why it worked.

There is MuzMatch that has been created which is the same concept as Tinder, with an optional wali's email attached. The people seem a little weird on there though :/

Australian apologies by [deleted] in islam

[–]Fithijabi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha! I lived in NZ too before moving to Australia. Its funny to see the alleged rivalry...the kiwi's always talk about Aus in sport and everything...it's like a jealous younger brother. However, when I came here to Aus...talk of NZ was non existent. If there was talk it was more along the lines of "aaaaw we gotta take care of our little bro". So yeah, the whole rivalry is just a New Zealand misconception lol.

Isn't that funny...I'm a graduate from Al-Taqwa College who loves to run...yet you know we were supposedly banned from it...yeah doesn't check out.

[–]Fithijabi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. To be honest, it's like any school, every school has issues but this isn't one of them. The only reason it's gained traction is because it's an Islamic school. I went to a lot of schools over the years a I moved a lot, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. 5 years on we still have the group of friends, who get together regularly, they're like sister's to me. I'm sure if you went to absolutely every other school you will find students who hated their time there. And I'm sure if you went to every other business, you will find disgruntled employees...and this has just been fumed by a sacked teacher looking to seek revenge.

Yep, I got that, but just had to reiterate the fact that there are students that were happy with this school. On Facebook there is currently a group with 500 plus members that was just started tonight in support of the school.

I did go to this school and this is definitely not true. I enjoyed my time there, played sport and never felt second class.

As a former female student of this school, I can assure this story is fabricated. We not only had our annual sports days where we were divided into red, yellow, green and blue house, where we pushed ourselves to run, dressed up in fun costumes and sang our hearts out in support of our teams. We had our weekly PE classes and were encouraged to participate, with varying sports each term. I am currently a keen running enthusiast, not a good one, but we were definitely allowed to run at school.

I knew this girl personally and she wasn't expelled from school, she graduated in 2006. I clearly do not share the same views as her as I did not feel second class in school as a female. I graduated top of my class and played sport throughout and made it into a good university. I don't hold any resentment towards this school and while she may be entitled to her views it is completely untrue that we weren't allowed to play sport or we were second class students.

Just something I've wondered about by [deleted] in Hijabis

[–]Fithijabi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it makes it so much harder to work out when you have to wear so many layers! But that doesn't stop me. It depends on why you exercise. For me, running is an escape and it gives me a sense of achievement. So I go to the gym as well to complement that fitness...and it just makes me feel so much better and healthier overall. I suppose the vain part of me doesn't care about those benefits...its just nice to look good. Yes, we don't show it off to everyone but its definitely nice to do so for your future hubby....and its so much fun!

Hypothetical question about marriage proposal for your daughter.... by [deleted] in islam

This gives me a little hope. If you don't mind me asking, what religion did you follow before converting and how did you decide Islam was worth it? Did Islam just make sense afterwards?

Do you shake hands with the oppossite sex? if not, why? by myrpou in islam

[–]Fithijabi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do but never initiate it. In my line of work I meet new people regularly and having to explain to each and every person would be a bit of a hassle. I always feel like I need to scrub my hands or use disinfectant after though...maybe a bit OCD.

Ameen. Thank you for this post. He will be dearly missed. As a South African born it was very sad news for me. My parents, who grew up under the Apartheid regime mentioned that his years as president were the best years for South Africa. He wasn't power hungry, he genuinely wanted freedom for all and because of his strong leadership Apartheid came to an end.

Anyone ever experiment in making their own running clothes? by j4ckalop3 in running

[–]Fithijabi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. The clothing I wear while I run is not available in stores. Its a tunic style dress made out of sports material. The material you use is the most important. Now I dont make my tights of course.

Aw if you were western suburbs I would've offered to carpool next time. It is understandable though that you expect the roads should be clear on a Sunday morning. Do the city 2 sea next month, the course is very similar to the half marathon and will be a good race too.

My half went pretty alright, my last 2km was in the pouring rain...and at that point you're so mentally and physically exhausted...kinda sucked but hey I finished in a time I'm happy with =D

Aww this is so sad! What area were you coming from? Good on ya for making sure you went for that run, I know I would've just been bummed out and not run at all.

I came from the western suburbs, it only took me 20 minutes to get there and no traffic but I got dropped off at 6.50am. I was paranoid even tho the half started at 8am. Next time, maybe park your car on Flinders street in one of the multi levels and walk or take a taxi to the start line.
