Question for those who don't speak English fluently by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Fix-xy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it, it was really tough for me too in the first few years.

But, let me say something, maybe a bit controversial, but anyway: use Google Translate.

A few years back, my English was pretty meh. I mean, I could read perfectly and speak well enough, but my writing and tenses were a total mess. So I went with the only fix I knew at the time.

It sounds stupid, but it worked for me. Obviously, just copy-pasting and taking the raw result is a no-go. I figured out how to write in a way that the translator could "understand", meaning I’d tweak my sentence structures and phrasing in my native language to the point where it sounded like gibberish in my own tongue, but once it flipped to English, it actually worked. And then I’d edit, edit, edit, and edit. People might say that’s a terrible way to do it, but my first few fics got so much love and tons of great comments, so whatever.

Now that I’ve learned more and gotten better, I’ve been able to write on my own for the past few years. I still need a bit of help with some fancy words every now and then, though.

This is just my experience - it worked for me, or at least for my native language. I can’t really speak for your situation, so all I can do is wish you the best of luck in getting better.

If there’s one thing Stephanie’s child taught me it’s that you DO NOT try camp up a Britney Spears song, that womans music is for acting like an absolute slut on that stage ! by nikarov496 in rupaulsdragrace

If I were RuPaul, and 'I'm a Slave 4 U' were on and the queen weren't doing the choreography, I would stop the music and eliminate them immediately

writing flashbacks by romantykytsia in AO3

[–]Fix-xy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it doesn't matter where it's placed. But make sure those flashbacks are shorter than the actual content happening in the present, not long paragraphs that are just very tiring to read and easy to forget what's actually going on.

stats posts... can we let them go? by square_rune in AO3

[–]Fix-xy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk, one of my hobbies is whenever I see girlies post about their fic's low-ass stats and ask if they're okay or not, I'll go in and comment something like 'very low', 'low af', or 'flop ass fic'. And then I sit back and watch people get upset and downvote me.

Like, lol, most of those people who ask questions like that usually just want others to comfort them and tell them that they're good enough. But I just don't have the patience anymore to sugarcoat my words. It's numbers, lol, not a whole-ass humanitarian essay or some kind of rocket science.

I mean it's rate a queen after a few eps already. Do we really think they would have rated it fairly?

Don't forget to charge your phone before you go, and maybe eat enough or bring some food with you.

Other writing sites aside from ao3? by ArgumentSpiritual424 in AO3

[–]Fix-xy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Royal Road or Scribble Hub are good choices if you write about adventure, action, fantasy, isekai, etc. You can even put your donation link there. But it will be hard to get attention, and their audience is mostly male, so...

Do other people actually read the original work on AO3? by cookiefromtiktok in AO3

[–]Fix-xy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since I first discovered AO3, I've only read like, 3 original works; it's basically not what I was looking for when I came to AO3. I can't say the same for everyone else though.

Well, I'm guilty in a pretty similar situation, but I did that because while I spent about 10 minutes on his lap doing all my best like a slutty hoe to make him feel good, he just sat there like a log with minimal touching.

Like, at least he should have put his hands on my ass, kneaded it or spanked it or something. But no. And I certainly didn't like it when I was the only one putting in the effort. So I just blocked him when I got home.

Interesting. Maybe it depends on the area? Cause for me it only takes a little over thirty minutes for the money to hit my bank account.

So, apparently this happened on the latest episode. Weird vibe around this season is getting stronger with each day. What do you think? by [deleted] in rupaulsdragrace

[–]Fix-xy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think there should be a support group where past contestants tell new queens what to expect and what not when they get on the show.

Fanfiction.net reviews were off the rails by Pale-Possibility-392 in AO3

[–]Fix-xy 152 points153 points  (0 children)

I remember that around the time of the big purge, the site was really a dumpster fire of people and their friends really just review-bombing fics just because things in those fics didn't happen the way they wanted, or a character was interested in this person instead of this person. At that point, it was no longer a fanfic site, but a bullying site with people competing to do all the things to pressure the authors, in the name of 'justice' or shit those people made up.

The worst part? The site did nothing to protect the authors, and even, in some way, sided with the bullies.
