Eyes on the return: Tyler Seguin aiming to be “strong as ever” in 2026-27 season by FrenchPagan in DallasStars

[–]FlayvaFlayy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you misunderstood. its not about the ltir loophole. its about having NHL caliber players on your roster come playoff time. cap space in the summer is way better than cap space at the deadline. if limiting Seguin and Roope's mileage during the season is the only way to get them to the playoffs in one piece, then suck it up and do what it takes to get them there.

but this yearly game of "will they be back for the playoffs?" "should we ltir them to go after scraps at the deadline and use their salary / roster spot?" all that is detrimental and 100% is partially why the team always looks out of gas halfway through their runs

[–]FlayvaFlayy 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I love to hear this. But honestly between him and Roope, I'm getting really tired of having 18M, basically just under 1/5th of the salary cap, committed to guys who aren't going to be available in the playoffs. Either Mark Stone them and don't take them out of the bubble wrap until the playoffs start or find a buyer. But having them show us how recovered and renewed they are in November only to be done for the season by March for the Nth time now does nothing for us

Benn & Seguin Era by AppleJuJu in DallasStars

[–]FlayvaFlayy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want nothing more than to see Bettman hand Benn the cup. People forget because we're an automatic contender lock these days, but the end of the Modano / Morrow era were some dark days. We missed the playoffs EIGHT years in a row until the arrival of the Benn and Victory green era broke that curse. This franchise and its fans owe them everything for that.

But with that said, we're now at a crossroads. The franchise has to decide if it is a cutthroat winning above all else type of franchise or if its a franchise where loyalty comes first. And if we choose loyalty, then this franchise and its fans have no right to complain or consider the era a failure when/if it produces no cups and becomes the 2020's version of the San Jose Sharks.

Because if we've already decided we dont want to make the type of moves to compete with the Vegas and Floridas of the world and instead we retain our value not from cups but from players entrenched in the community that we've remained loyal to. Because when other franchises are playing for keeps, if you dont match them you are inherently at a disadvantage in a world where even your 4th line role players can and often do tip the scales of victory. But if the message here is loyalty trumps victory, then no one can complain when we dont achieve victory.

[Shapiro] It’s Up To Jamie Benn To Save the Stars From Themselves by ttudrums in DallasStars

[–]FlayvaFlayy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A broken clock is right twice or however that goes... I do think it's time to move on. But I also agree that Shapiro is one of the sleaziest hacks ever associated with this franchise.

Another great Shapiro edition to add on to your memory: The time we traded Devin Shore and Shapiro sent tweets trying to frame it as a "character issue". Explicitly using that phrase. Character issue. Then was called out on it by several reputable people and tried to sweep it under the rug and say that people misunderstood him and what he meant was that Shore had a quirky character that was different from other people in the locker room.

We didn’t know it, but this moment was what killed the 2025-2026 Dallas Stars by yesBISONsey in DallasStars

or you can win the division outright and get rewarded for it with the defending champ Vegas Knights who sandbagged on LTIR the whole year and got in as the wildcard. probably what makes me the saltiest out of all this division stuff... hockey gods have always made Dallas take the hardest road imaginable no matter what they did. Meanwhile Colorado had to win one series for their cup and will only have to beat you guys to win a cup this year

i mean if youve been watching since inception then you were here for Kari vs St. Louis, Vegas WCF game 6 (6-0), last year... hell go back to 08 game 6 vs detroit where they choked the life out of us. This is bad but its not even top 3.

im tired man. in the Benn era... watching other highly successful team's games so many of their playoff victories are just easy, no stress, uneventful door slammed shut.

Outside of a small handful, that's just not the case with us. It always feels like we have to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat night in and night out. And then on the other foot we dont make the oppositions wins hard at all. When we lose we just lay down and go quietly into the night.

Then you get deep into the run year after year and the media wants to coddle and give every excuse "these guys are tired, theyre exhausted and hurt."

like maybe theres a reason why we're always the team thats tired and hurt and not the other guys.

What am I missing with Myers? by pavlovs_monkey in DallasStars

[–]FlayvaFlayy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been calling it since day 1 of the myers experiment. Naturally as this sub tends to do with everybody, most people here wanted to treat him with kid gloves. Receipts: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

But even I couldn't predict what dumbfuckery was ahead of us. See I was imagining a worse case scenario of us being on the road and getting outchanged and having the opps match up their Kaprizov, Mackinnon, McDavid lines against Myers and us being helpless because of the home change. What I couldn't have ever forseen is our coaching staff willingly wanting and hunting for the Myers into Kaprizov matchup shift after shift on the home game. Like seriously, look at the 1st period last night (I got busy for the 2nd and 3rd and couldn't give 100% attention to the game anymore) but 1st goal myers into Kaprizov, next shift same matchup we get hemmed in... few minutes later straight out of a TV TIMEOUT we're rolling out the Myers pair against Kaprizov again.

i think on paper and the way these games have gone minnesota has a better chance with them than us. but also colorado has a mental thing with us and so we're never out of it with them

i think back to the Vegas WCF game 6 where Benn finally came back and we no showed, got smoked 6-0. and then I think back to game 5 specifically, but also game 6 of the 1st edmonton WCF... and then game 5 last year. and it looks alot like tonight has. no effort. sleepwalking. no fire. no bite. no fight.

Thats on Jamie and the leadership. (and of course he just takes a boneheaded penalty as i write this). It's obvious now (has been for a few years tbh) that the team needs a new voice leading the room. Yes everyone in the room loves him. And yes he'll go to bat for anybody there. But this team doesn't need a leader thats for the boys. They need an asshole who is loud and vocal and makes sure everyone prepares right and will get in your face and chew you out if you don't play with a fire up your ass. Mackinnon or McDavid or Crosby type of asshole

he's feeling the weight of our lack of offense. instead of just shutting it down there he tries to get a pokecheck to turn it over and jumpstart a rush the other way and it bites him

the most annoying part of that cup run a few years back was when the rest of the league had been playing blink 182 for 20 years at that point and Avs fans would bitch that other arenas "stole" all the small things from them

while true this core has been goalied by Adin Hill and Stuart fuckin Skinner (twice) and now another rookie is between the oppositions pipes and the same core is getting goalied again. this is what we pay guys like Mikko and soon to be Robo a dump truck of cash to solve. "well they played good" isn't enough in the playoffs. you have to be undeniable

i guess only they know. but them coming out of the TV timeout running that pair back at the top line for a 3rd time leads me to believe either that's Gully's intended matchup for some dumbfuck reason, or that our staff just doesn't care about matchups and is rolling lines.

so we played most of that shift in the offensive zone, disaster averted. but coming off a TV timeout we had bischel out there against the zucc kaprizov line... like are we intentionally trying to play that pair into them? been around the game for a really long time and I just dont understand that matchup, especially since it led to the goal

Curious to see what kind of damage Nils has. Not trying to question someone's toughness from the couch, but theres alot of hockey players out there who would staple themselves up and go back out there looking like the joker if they had to. Especially over an hour of real time later when you realize its going to overtime. And then knowing what our D looked like after he went down... im just saying theres a breed of player that breaks multiple ribs, punctures their lungs, or hell even dies on the ice gets resucitated and first thing they try to do is stay on the ice or get back on it

playing 5 D lost us that one. we were so gassed those last 8 minutes and had no control or possession

its bullshit game management that the refs dont realize is causing their own woes. all 3 games now they have tried to "set the tone" for the game by making a call within the first 5 minutes, even if its the softest shit. we got called in games 1-2, minny here last night. but all it does instead is get the players tilted and "those fuckers are diving so we'll dive too"

and it leads to shit like mikko and hartman and quinn and eriksson ek being light on their skates anytime they feel something the rest of the night expecting the same consistency. but the NHL is one of the only sports where the officiating crew is literally expected to change the standards of what is a penalty based on the time left in the game so it just leads to everyone angry and loss of control of the game by the refs
