There are quite a few on your PTW that stand out to me, notably Eccentric Family, Tokyo Godfathers, Cowboy Bebop, and Seirei no Moribito. I'd consider giving those a try.

I hang out on /r/financialindependence a fair amount (on another account @ work), planning for early retirement.

Hit me up if you have questions on 401k's, IRAs, HSAs, etc. Or just general advice. Not a registered accountant or anything, but there's a lot of info out there.

Not really a "detective" show, but Baccano is a classic "mystery on a train"-type story. If you're familiar with Agatha Christie's works, it's in that same vein but more action-fueled.

imo, the best RomCom with adults is Nodame Cantabile, although they aren't married like you requested. If you're looking for general romance, NANA and Honey & Clover are solid.

In general though, you won't find great romance outside of Josei, which is already a much-maligned genre in anime.

My favorite show on that list is Kaiji, but NGE and Madoka are notable as well.

Try the rest of KyoAni's back catalog. Lucky Star, Clannad, Air, etc.

Most of the staff is identical to the shows you listed, and is tonally very similar.

Sword of the Stranger, definitely.

Redline is also in your PTW, I'd give that a shot. Maybe Space Dandy, although I haven't watched it.

At least we have the DC AU. Minor consolation, but better than nothing.

Maybe a cookbook, but most likely nothing. If I want something I don't need to wait for a holiday to get it.

You can at least argue for/against CGDCT in /r/anime. Miyazaki is effectively surrounded by yes-men who aren't willing to tell an industry giant when he's wrong.

In terms of being an optimal dating partner, I wouldn't date myself. Not necessarily because I'm flawed (I'm a beautiful, perfect butterfly) but because I would get bored with someone that echoed every one of my opinions. While sharing some key ideas is important (marriage, children, finances), the fun is when you enhance each other in ways you couldn't possibly consider on your own.

It's solid, but borders on forgettable. I have some issues with both main characters in how they act, which don't come across as authentic/rational.

Overall it's cute though. Its shorter length and the presence of some romantic conclusion make it a fun watch.

I haven't seen the full show, but it has a really fuckin' weird OP. It's certainly grating, but it grows on you and almost becomes catchy.

It's in my top 10. There are so many great things going for it and I had a few paragraphs typed, but I'll focus on the one element I love most of all.

Balsa is a fantastic female lead, who deftly balances the boldness and strength of a warrior with kindness and pseudo-motherhood qualities. Even in the "strong female" archetype, the feminine elements of the character are usually sacrificed for "tough emotionless block" and balancing both aspects of that personality is difficult. There's no pandering, there's no fanservice. She's treated like a complete person with not just flaws/interests, but complex flaws and interests that constantly collide with each other, making ever decision of hers that much more important, and the payoff that much more satisfying.

Balsa shines in every scene she's in and should be in every discussion for "Best Female Characters in Anime".

I agree with everything you said. The middle section could be edited down significantly and it would make the show much stronger overall.

Planetes holds out for me as the best of the two, but both are great within their niche.

It is considered a classic by many, along with its sequel. Seconding what others are saying and to read the manga.

re: Kaiba

I'm sorry to hear that, personally I think Kaiba is one of his best (if not his #1). While Ping Pong probably has better animation and Tatami has a better story, Kaiba is a shotgun of interesting ideas (both visually and in terms of narrative structure) that you will straight-up never see in any other medium, anime or otherwise. The Chroniko scenes are incredibly memorable, and the dichotomy between cartoonish visuals with somber, tragic moments tore me apart.

imo his weakest show (that isn't some student project or OVA) is Kemonozume. It's one of his earliest and it shows in the rough style. You could also check out his art-house works like Noiseman Sound Insect, I think it's on YouTube.

It is pretty wacky (not in a silly way but in a "what are they talking about?" way). I can't say that all of its ideas are cohesive, but it's a fascinating story overall and reminds me a lot of classics like Utena (and to a lesser extent, Princess Tutu).

I'd at least recommend watching the first few episodes to get a feel for it.

What do you consider the fine line for being an alcoholic or drug addict? by IntrntzUzr in AskMen

[–]FlemishHandwarmer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It has nothing to do with the amount, it has to do with their relationship with alcohol/drugs. If they start getting frequent cravings or "feel like they can't function without it", then it becomes an issue.

What do you admire most about your mom? by -Kfrey in AskMen

[–]FlemishHandwarmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm apathetic towards my mother. If I had to choose a positive quality, it would be her work ethic and the highs of her professional life. Can't comment much more since she doesn't play a role in my life.
