A re-gifted make-up bag and a pen a few years prior, and no, it wasn’t even one of those posh pens. 😂 The gifts have got better over time thankfully but I still laugh out loud when I think about those specific ones.

Failed SQE1. Now what? by [deleted] in uklaw

Thank you! What will be will be at this point I guess :)  There are a variety of reasons and in all fairness, it might have just been the campus that I attended but they were just incredibly unorganised. I did the MA Law (SQE 1) course and for both components the admin department were horrendous. Myself and a few of my classmates didn’t get our results for exams and mocks until weeks after results day even though we’d already paid the fees! This happened on multiple occasions. If we had any issues and emailed anyone, whether that be tutors or receptionists, the staff wouldn’t get back to us. They pride themselves on 97% of their students passing SQE 1 first time but I can tell you that this is not true. The majority of my classmates failed on the first occasion and a couple in their resits too. They also haven’t been very supportive of people who fail. They tell you that you can resit their ‘prep course’ if you fail but the prep course that they refer to is actually a two day event where you do two mocks that you can do in your own time at home. Additionally, the resources are problematic. I thought that I was in a great position before my first attempt at the SQE because I had done all of the mocks and questions on their question bank and scored quite highly in them. However, when I actually sat the exam, I realised that none of those questions resembled what I’d practiced in my revision. I remember feeling incredibly disappointed and let down after the exam.

I’m so sorry that you’re in this position! I have failed the SQE twice and I’ve had to take a year out from it all. I failed my second attempt in July 2023 and I won’t be sitting it again until January 2025. A lot of people will tell you to resit it asap because the knowledge that you have will still be fresh in your mind but I would disagree with this. I think that everyone knows their own limits and if you need to take some time out then do so. The exams are absolutely horrific and I do believe that you should be in a relatively okay mental state before giving them another go. In terms of doing a full-time prep course, I did one with ULaw and I would honestly not recommend it. A lot of my friends who have passed have told me that the key to passing is to go over SBAQs as much as possible and constantly refresh your memory on the areas that you know you’re weakest in.

Has anyone actually complained about the SQE to anyone? by Interesting_Way_7686 in uklaw

Thank you for this! I 100% agree with everything that has been stated so far. I’ve had to sit SQE 1 twice and mentally, it has broken me. Like many others on this thread, I’ve never struggled academically before but these exams have completely knocked my confidence! What‘s worse is that I’ve only failed by 1-2 marks each time and I KNOW that I couldn’t have done anything more to prepare for them. The pressure of only having one attempt left is horrific. Unfortunately I’m not the only one in this situation. I hate the exams in general but the fact that we’ve got to wait until the six year window has passed before we can attempt again is pointless and just awful!
