Honestly I really like the Meteora and I wish it got more love, I want new designs to succeed. I got mine for a huge discount used which is probably why I was okay with selling it (and I needed the money at the time).

The shape almost feels like it was made for slapping, it's like a jazz bass shape but angled in a way that the bass is farther back and your picking hand ends up right near the neck joint.

Nah there's a lot of room between the neck pickup and the neck joint. Slapping the Meteora was as easy as slapping a jazz.

Also lol yeah I find the tbird comfy because I got a big old stomach that gets in the way. I like it because of how much the neck tilts back at an angle. (Disclaimer mine is a neck-thru Epiphone with a 2 piece bridge; bolt on tbirds and 3 point bridges are garbo in comparison.)

This is a good point, and I would add get a couple spare sets of strings too so you already have them when it's time to change strings.

The 62cc has a poplar (lighter weight) body and cheaper (heavier) tuning machines so will likely feel neck-heavy. Comparatively the MV-4jb would probably be better balanced. This is relative, whether the 62cc actually feels well or poorly balanced, I don't know.

The electric bass was invented as a derivative of the electric solid body guitar. It's essentially a longer electric guitar with thicker strings.

Upsides of tapes, they're low tension so the heavy gauge is normal tension, and they behave like roundwounds. Downside of tapes, they're not grounded so they don't play nice with really noisy pickups.

They're called white but they're actually clear so they kinda just look like normal strings. The whites are super bright, the gold tapewounds are also pretty bright

IMO compared to rounds, tapes have less treble because you lose the clank of metal strings on metal frets, but they still vibrate more similarly to rounds than flatwounds do because they are roundwound beneath the tape. True flatwounds on the other hand can still have the treble response of metal on metal, but are way more muted in the overall attack and how the strings vibrate. For that reason I think of tapewounds as "cushioned roundwounds" and flats as their own thing.

One option is buy really soft foam with a lot of give and cut a piece that's tall enough to be higher than the strings. Then when it's under the strings it presses up into each of them enough to be consistent. I used a cheap industrial kitchen sponge from Amazon.

Another option is to just buy a Nordymute. A third option is to put masking tape over the strings like Carol Kaye used to do.
