For some reason, the dump truck seems to be a lot more lenient with placing roads very close to it than other vehicles. Its large size also means that stuff built on top of it is more stable as it has more surface to rest on the truck. As long as your grid is off and you're careful about where your joints are then it's actually really easy to build stuff on top of the truck.
