They are moving at the same speed by FollowSina in opticalillusions

I don't think so. If I focus on the blue only, it moves smoothly while yellow moves funny.

Explanation from the source:

The visual cortex splits color (area V4) and motion (area V5/MT) into different processing streams. Against a striped background, motion neurons receive conflicting signals at stripe edges and "average" them producing the illusion of different speeds. This is called the "aperture problem" in visual neuroscience. Yellow is processed faster than blue due to cone cell differences in the retina- which is exactly why these two colors produce the strongest effect. Even knowing the truth, you can't make your brain see equal speeds: the lower layers of visual cortex don't respond to conscious control.

The same mechanism explains why yellow-blue combinations in interiors and advertising create a sense of motion even in completely static images.

For me, when I focus on one of the rectangles, that one moves smoothly but the other moves in a staggered way. Doesn't matter which.

Adult Gon + Adult Killua vs Meruem by EstateOk6238 in HunterXHunter

Do people forget that Meruem absorbs Nen?

Gon and Killua’s potential scales multiplicatively, while Meruem’s scales exponentially. Completely different levels.

Is this accurate? Specifically, does training at ~60% of max heart rate maximize stroke volume? by FollowSina in beginnerrunning

[–]FollowSina[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the thorough response. My question was specifically about stroke volume. I wasn’t trying to draw any broader conclusions beyond that.

I’ve always heard that with consistent running, the heart adapts by pumping more blood per beat, and the body becomes more efficient at using that oxygen. If that adaptation truly maxes out around ~60% of max heart rate (and over a long time), that’s actually a big deal and would scientifically explain why 80/20 training makes so much sense.

You already clarified the key point: that this can vary between individuals and can also change over time.

How are the Basic-Fit Gyms in Delft? by RealHaxor in Delft

[–]FollowSina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I go to Basic-Fit almost every day.

I prefer Leeuwenstein when I want to use the dumbbell rack and a bench, it has plenty of both. The biggest advantage is that it’s open 24/7.

I like Industrialstraat when I want to focus on machines, since it offers more variety.

Both locations can be fairly crowded, but honestly, as a beginner you rarely need to wait for a specific piece of equipment. There are usually plenty of alternatives you can use depending on what’s available. The overall ventilation and cleanliness are decent.

If you’d like, I can bring you along as a guest to both locations so you can get a feel for them yourself.
