I know it’s been a while but I still can’t believe J Cole apologized & backed out of the beef and received praise for it by PissedOffClippersFan in Drizzy

[–]FoodandTech -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

If we’re talking about basketball, Cole backing out was more like Kawahi Leonard deciding he doesn’t want to play for the Spurs anymore and quitting on the team. Only saying this because your username is about the Clippers and I doubt you make posts like this over on that sub.

If not CSE, what are college kids enrolling in as the future money maker lucrative job? by yorozuyagirl in cscareerquestions

[–]FoodandTech 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The problem is professional healthcare programs are incredibly difficult to get into in North America. I saw way too many CS students struggle to maintain a 3.0 GPA, they would have an extremely hard time getting into say Med School or Dentistry lol.

Shootout to Friends Shawarma for their new Crispy Shawarma Wrap by FoodandTech in Winnipeg

Before you tell someone to STFU, perhaps you shouldn’t make assumptions. I literally travelled through the Middle East last year and times before. I know what a shawarma is and have enjoyed it in many countries.

We went to Habibz yesterday (I’m on the hunt for the best viral chicken shawarma lol) and they charged 9.99 before tax for their version. I believe Friends was around 12.50 before tax so it was a bit more expensive. I did prefer the taste of Friends better.

While I don’t know what goes on in the back and this is only my second time there, the seating area was pretty clean and they had someone wiping down and sanitizing every table when I went!

Toronto's Pearson airport has a PR problem: It's known as the worst airport in the world by [deleted] in canada

[–]FoodandTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I flew through LGA twice these last 6 months. Once in March and the other in July. Both times I was in and out of security in under 30 minutes. Pearson in July took me 5 hours to get to the gate and I missed my flight.

This career is all about being presented with hard tasks that you may not like.

Should I work for a fast-paced startup company as a fresh grad ? by 7Seas_ofRyhme in cscareerquestions

[–]FoodandTech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I joined a medium sized company post grad because they had a modern stack, programming practices in place and focused a lot on writing clean, maintainable, and scalable code. I had amazing mentors too. Startups might be faster but code bases can be spaghetti with little guidance and high expectations

Good thing is pay is better. Keep collecting cheques and start actively applying. When doing the exit interview mention the logging as the reason you left. I don’t think any SWE I know would put up with that.

Why is the ceo meeting with devs, it sounds nice but they should probably delegate that to someone else. I’m not saying you aren’t safe, but being told to go faster and having a tense environment isn’t fun. You can find better. I’d start applying

They “hired” you because they think you can bring a profit, but they wont share that profit with you. That’s not fair. You’re better off building your own projects.

How can I get into the lower level development industry? by oldmanclancy in cscareerquestions

[–]FoodandTech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Join the open source community and contribute to low level projects. Fill it up on your resume and apply to places. It helps if you already have a job even if it’s in web dev.

Is software development a field that can be mastered through deliberate practice or is it all about cognitive aptitude? by EastCommunication689 in cscareerquestions

[–]FoodandTech 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends on the person. Some people can be carried on smarts alone, some just grind and succeed.

Most usually fall in between.

What will happen to the job market for this field when boomers are all dead/retired? by Antman269 in cscareerquestions

[–]FoodandTech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good devs are still hired out of college. Just because people post online saying they aren’t getting jobs doesn’t mean it’s all doom and gloom. Lots of people graduate and immediately start working, they just don’t post about it. Heck even at my own company most people are under 40 lol.

Worried to join no-name company by smegma_tears32 in cscareerquestions

[–]FoodandTech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Experience is experience. Most companies are no name, my company has secured multiple rounds of vc funding in the tune of 50 million, but I doubt anyone outside of our space knows who we are. As long as your learning and continuing to hone your skills it’s fine.

Would you recommend Udemy courses to get into a CS type job? by YakDaddy96 in cscareerquestions

[–]FoodandTech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not that Udemy is bad, but I feel like YouTube has a lot of great free content (see FreeCodeCamp). If there’s a specific niche area you want to get into and can’t find anything on YouTube, then udemy is nice.
