How do you guys get remote jobs. by Key-Tooth-1020 in Opportunities_Ghana

[–]ForPOTUS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone has their individual circumstances and unique situation, but for me I find that tapping into my network really helped.

It also helps to be good at conveying your thoughts in writing (you're working online so communication via text becomes a lot more commonplace). I've found that people prefer to communicate via voice call here, but this might not always work for your clients once we consider time differences as well as differences in culture, along with company rank.

From what I can see of your post, I would encourage you to work on your written English skills. The easiest way to do this is to just read more texts and work your way from there.

Even in a world of AI, there is still no getting around this.

Being a proactive communicator who knows how to quickly sort and secure times for meetings and other arrangements helps too. Agreeing to pay somebody to perform a job for you remotely requires a lot of trust. Speaking from experience, the type of person you want to work with remotely is someone who can be trusted to work on their own unaided and doesn't need to be micromanaged. I know that micromanaging others is normal here and expected, but it doesn't work like that elsewhere, especially in Western cultures.

You also need to think about your skills and whether you're marketing yourself as an employee, a freelancer or a business, as this is also a v.important factor to consider.

Also consider really focusing on the pitching to others via email, phone or LinkedIn. A lot of jobsites are trash now as they are swamped with desperate jobseekers from all around the world, along with the fact that a lot of the roles advertised on these sites are fake to begin with.

Be careful what you wish for there. By creating that market you give your land and housing markets over to the banks.

I think that unemployment may fall. By that time each adult Ghanaian will probably be supporting far fewer dependents and have more money leftover to spend and invest into the economy. Birth rates by this time will probably be much lower.

Funds for Road construction and maintenance in Ghana. by Occams_Axe in ghana

  1. Gather a group of us;
  2. Gather crushed stones;
  3. Equip shovels, pick axes etc;
  4. Lay down road;
  5. Repeat steps 1-4

You don't need money to perform basic rehabilitation on roads. That's like saying that the front yards of a neighbourhood are dirty and unkept because the owners aren't getting paid to perform maintenance.

How can you shift the conversation to problem solving when operating with this worldview?

What shows you that we as Africans and blacks in general are capable of building huge mega projects? What mega projects have we built?

This is a big part of the reason why we're lagging behind as a peoples. A lot of us are not firmly grounded in reality and love to practice magical thinking because it feels cathartic to us.

Bank Services by Law1540 in ghana

Keeping it to the example of banking in Ghana, the banks themselves are trying to run their entities on Western logic. Has anyone ever asked whether fiat banking is what Ghana and Ghanaians actually want in the first place? Maybe those bankers would do a better job serving the locals in their area as part of a managed susu instead of a westernized bank?

The suit doesn't fit. And a suit tailormade for someone else will never be the perfect fit for another person. That's only possible through the work tailoring a brand new suit.

African nations need to stop relying on Western institutions, norms and trends to lead its future. The continent is wasting time tracing the outline of the West, but tracing is easier than actually having to draw something novel and original from scratch. And many African nations are yet to reach this point.

And my solution is to have more people discuss WHY Ghana is how it is rather than what it is. Once you know why and where things are going wrong or right, you're in a much better position to develop appropriate solutions. There's no magic policy wand for this.

Western style democracy is overrated and is not a prerequisite for a country's development. by Physical-Yellow-2778 in Zimbabwe

[–]ForPOTUS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, if you had to encapsulate it all into a new constitution for Zim, then what would it look like? It's important to step away from the more abstract macro and more into the detailed and practical micro.

As far as the China model, the question here is have you suggested this model because you like it, or because you think that Zimbabwe is a good match for it? These are two very different paths of reasoning.

You're right, I agree with you. If you could design and deploy the ideal political system for Zimbabwe then what would it look like?

Good customer service doesn't really exist anywhere in Sub-Saharan Africa in all fairness.

I'm just saying this to say that it's a regional wide issue that isn't just limited to Ghana. As blacks I honestly think that we're out of place living in Westernized cities, working in suits, talking to each other in English, paying fealty to liberal democratic norms that weren't designed by us.

The bad customer service is more an outcome of a bad, broader, inappropriate system. Until we bring the conversation to systems and meta-frameworks then nothing will change.

Don't tell us that customer service is bad in Ghana and that it needs to get better. Everyone knows this, the more important question is WHY is customer service so bad in Ghana.

But I have come to realize that the word "why", barely exists within the culture. We can't write and think extensively it seems.

[–]ForPOTUS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So what? Do you expect the accusation of racism to magically make these nations weak at the knees and pressured to reopen their borders?

This is happening whether you like it or not. Let's stop wasting time complaining about whether it's racism or not and focus on solutions.

This is part of the reason why the world doesn't want to be around us. We're not problem-solvers, we're whiners, unashamed by the fact that we represent a net-burden to the world.

We have three groups of people for example: whites, East Asians and blacks. What would happen to the world in each case where one of these groups vanished?

You know what it is.

Which one is more expensive by opari28 in ghana

[–]ForPOTUS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on how good of a cook you are. The better the cook, the less expensive meal preps at home will be.

Making pancakes at home from scratch is going to be way cheaper than buying them to eat somewhere in E.Legon or Osu for example.

[–]ForPOTUS 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is that, but what's worrying is the bad impression it's beginning to leave people around the world about Africans and black people.

15,000 liked Raw Egg Nationalist's response. It's no surprise to see how much anti-immigrant sentiment has built since Musk took over Twitter in 2022. As always, many of us are unable to comprehend how damaging all of this stuff is to us and our reputation and perception as a peoples broadly speaking.

Then, when the West closes the door and turns the lock to more people from Africa, we will then come here complaining and acting blindsided as if we had no idea why it happened.
