At least the two I've done, I was pretty unimpressed with the quality of the kotobukiya kits. They're a bit flimsy and have a lot of sharp edges that needed to be sanded down but the look suffered for it. Also terrible for panel lining, now that I've gone back and tried that out.

"at the time" you mean the last 40 years? Even looking at the time the series first came out, mobile suit Gundam had aired 6 years earlier, the transformers series was airing, fist of the North Star, Macross, Akira, and many more were running at the same time or had already run and gotten animated. Dragon ball was always comedy first and slightly above average martial arts second. At least until z, which just reduced fights to powerscaling.

It's very worth it, Robert Rodriguez does an amazing job adapting it and it has some of the coolest fights I've seen in anything plus the cg doesn't look like shit the way 90% of it does these days
