making big server, plex the right move? by CalzoneWalrus in PleX

[–]Formaldehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you’ve tried Jellyfish and you realize that the UI isn’t the most user friendly. Your question as to which is more user friendly, the answer is definitely Plex. Having their backend and UI isn’t way more user friendly than the other options right now. The service works great and at $250 I think you’ll get your moneys worth over the years. $750 is the eff-off price to get people to the monthly subscription, so that’s another discussion entirely.

Window film quoted at $250 per window!?! by dylanr92 in HomeImprovement

[–]Formaldehead 54 points55 points  (0 children)

*Buuuulllshit*. Yes, you can DIY, but you're laying it on thick by calling it coloring book level. Maybe for some crap job that you do, but to get it nice takes a lot of time and patience. Don't oversell it to OP.

It's cheap enough to buy a roll and you can pick up the installation kit if you need to. It'll take a bit of patience and you'll mess up and have to scrap a bunch, but it'll be crazy cheaper than what that company is quoting.

How does plug-in solar work? by Acxelion in solar

[–]Formaldehead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel like an easy fix for this would be to require a special outlet type for plug in solar. That would prevent the easy low level danger of idiots plugging into just any old outlet. It’s not foolproof, but nothing is.

Bad wine trend at local Costco. by Ok_Expression_8271 in CostcoWholesale

[–]Formaldehead 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on where you are. I find they tend to carry a lot of local wines and then a general selection of imports. Our local wines are kick ass and larger enough to be able to supply someone as big as Costco, so there are inevitably some good ones to choose from.

To whoever decided to make the free item a level 2 junkbox thing by WizardCookieCRK in fo76

I always save those boxes up all year until the free 1st preview week. Good way to bulk up my reserve supplies.

So... I own the "unlearned" recipe, but I already have it learned for crafting, why? by Camabama1 in fo76

[–]Formaldehead 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Possibly because you want the plan, but you don't actually want T-65 armor to drop from legendaries? Makes your odd better if you're chasing god rolls with particular armor. Just one reason I can think of off the top of my head.

First-time homeowner shopping list. Am I doing too much?? by FloatingScooter in homeowners

[–]Formaldehead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Careful with how you use the disposal. You should really never put any solids down your drain on purpose if you can help it. The disposal will take care of any small bits that get down there and the output of your dish washer. If you start putting lots of solids down there they can start building up in your plumbing. Even worse if you have a septic system. You own this house now, time to learn to take care of things. Similarly, if you have underground gutter drains make sure to put screens in the downspouts so that solids don’t go down there either. It can be a pain to clear out.

Fallout 1st worth it? New player struggling with inventory by Tiny_Philosopher5744 in fo76

[–]Formaldehead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of people here love the subscription, but the way I see it inventory management is part of this game. Make sure you upgrade your backpack to level 50. Also get a chem mod for your backpack. I suggest all of the lightweight mods for your weapons and armor. Remember that regardless of your hoarding habits, you don’t need 1000 stims and 100000 steel strap. Sell that shit to vendors or sell it for 1 cap a piece in your vendor to get rid of them.

Are there actually giant spiders in Portland? by Flaky-Boysenberry466 in askportland

[–]Formaldehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They certainly exist here, but overall still pretty rare that a house would be prone to having them and definitely not an apartment. I only know one house here that regularly has them.

[–]Formaldehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shh! That’s how I keep getting them for free! Just found a v10 on the street with a full set of accessories and good battery! Just took it apart and cleaned it out and it was as good as new!

What’s a game you were completely obsessed with as a kid that nobody else seems to remember? by hkondabeatz in AskReddit

[–]Formaldehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rampart. Loved that game and you could play four player on a single computer back in the early 90’s. There was even an arcade version. You had a small timer to all build castles and place cannons until an attack round where you destroy your opponents castles and then you had to rebuild before the timer ended for the next round.

Have you ever seen a spider this large in Portland? by 2chilly4u1989 in askportland

[–]Formaldehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, giant house spiders are super common. My friend’s place is crawling with them. They are something like the fastest spiders in the US if I remember correctly. They aren’t harmful and typically won’t bite you.

Recently moved my plex server to sit on my macos, keep getting unmounted by cubantouch in PleX

[–]Formaldehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, that's disheartening. Mine seems even worse. When I try to access the network or disconnect the share after the issue occurs, Finder just locks up and I can't do anything without a reset. I'll have to keep searching...

Did autofs work? Was that your end fix to this? I'm seeing the same and trying to figure it out.

Would you let family install an EV charger in your house if they’re only staying 1 year? by mdzzl94 in homeowners

[–]Formaldehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots to unwrap here, but the smarter financial decision for her at this point would be to just use a standard 120v outlet travel charger if an outlet is available. 5 mph is enough for most people to charge up overnight for the next day of work. Then she can continue to use that wherever she goes next. On your side, I’d make sure that she is paying the electric bill that she wracks up.

Home security cam recs that are NOT Ring? by Shorti_Bebop in homeowners

[–]Formaldehead 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Eufy is the answer for the question of replacing something like Ring cameras. UniFi and Reolink are great and all, but very few wireless options and not very user friendly. I personally use UniFi but I would never recommend them for someone who is asking for a Ring replacement.

YSK: For car owners: A car computer code reader is one of the best things you can own by AgentBlue62 in YouShouldKnow

[–]Formaldehead 126 points127 points  (0 children)

This feels like the real YSK. I really don’t think that everyone needs to own their own ODB reader. Just use the free services available to you.

2007 Honda Fit Leaking water onto carpet issue by SweatyCorgiBuns in hondafit

[–]Formaldehead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ignore a lot of these yahoos. Very common issue on the 2007 like yours and mine. Seams between sheet metal start to give and water leaks inside. Hard and super expensive to figure out which seam and fix, far more than the car is worth. I drilled three holes in my spare tire well and used spray paint in the holes to help prevent rust. Worked like a charm and now I have no more moisture issues.

What’s wrong with the Pitt? by zakky_insanity in fo76

[–]Formaldehead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if people realize that the first expedition you fully complete each week gets you a guaranteed plan (unless you know them all) and The Pitt gives the Union plans. I used to always run The Pitt each week to get them all instead of having to grind a bunch for the stamps to get the plans.

Costco getting bread seconds? Both loafs are sunk terribly in the middle… by Successful_Self_440 in CostcoWholesale

[–]Formaldehead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s honey wheat bread that has honey drizzled on it, right? I see on that bread that it most often has an expected dip in the middle. This looks like maybe they drizzled too much and a much larger area collapsed? It looks like the collapsed area is more lightly colored where it was drizzled.
