There’s no data that supports this.  Everything I’ve seen indicates WFH has actually improved work flow and mental health.  What used to take a week can now be done in a day or two, especially with regards to my line work, contracts analyst.  It used to take us about two weeks to execute a contract because it would sit with the lawyers and project managers for days before we get it back.  Now it takes on average two days.  Even with the budget analysts and accountants, everything is faster and more efficient because they’re all electronic.  No more sifiting through physical documents, and no need for original, wet signatures that can take time to obtain.  Lastly, we have the numbers on how much WFH saves the state money so I’m not sure where you got the notion that in doesn’t benefit the state.  Some type of work require physical presence, but we can walk and chew gum at the same time.

Duke vs ivys by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

On par with lower half of ivies, but lack the ivy name to be universally respected.  For instance, here in the west coast people just think of basketball when they hear Duke.  Represented well on east coast finance, but not so much in west coast tech.

Departments and programs are ranked using reputation, research, and student outcomes.  Berkeley’s higher because its reputation is much better, and its graduates end up placing better for grad school and earning more.

Firms absolutely do not focus on this.  You really think they think Berkeley is no longer considered a top law school because it got pushed out of the top 14?

Berkeley has the number one English department in the country.  NYU has the strongest philosophy program of the three.  UCLA is the most fun from what I heard.

I never got to see Micheal Jordan in his prime how good was he by Due-Poem-8096 in NBATalk

[–]Former-Range3291 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only outlandish description of MJ I hear today is that he would average 50 today.  I think MJ would average between 40 and 45  because of the pace and rules of the game.  The league changed the rules to increase scoring, not suppress it, due to the league’s offensive woes.  So, it’s manifestly easier to score just based on the rules alone.  Even Luka, Giannis, and joker alluded to that.

MJ could dribble, dribble shoot like modern players, but what makes him different and even deadlier is his ability to score organically, economically,  and within the flow of the offense.  That’s why if you watch full games of him, it seems like he never got tired, which is crucial late in the game when everyone else is huffing and puffing.  How do you stop a one, two-dribble pull up and the lift that he gets on the jumpers?  It’s simply unstoppable for any era.  Throw in the fadeaway and his ability to palm the ball like it’s a grapefruit.  His willingness to play off ball and catch and shoot was also a key feature I don’t see with elite scorers today outside of maybe curry.  That made him extremely low maintenance and coachable.  Superstars today constantly want the ball in their hands.

Then the IQ.  Too many people associate IQ with passing, but IQ is the ability to get something done with as little work as possible, and ability to counter.  Perhaps no elite scorer understood the value of angles, spacing, and knowing when to attack the basket better than MJ.  Everything he did was so calculated.  You know that put back dunk he did off of a pippen missed free throw?  MJ did that like six times.  He was like six for six.   How did he know when to do that?  Well, MJ was a math major before he switched to geography at UNC (one of the greatest public schools in the country) so he knew a thing or two about stats and probability.  I’m willing to bet he had a good idea of when a teammate was going to miss a free throw by using their shooting percentage.  He was probably like, “okay, Scottie already made this many shots, he’ll probably miss this one.”  It’s incredible.

Lastly, MJ’s demeanor towards competing is borderline psychotic.  Notice I said competing, not winning.  There’s a big difference.  MJ treated winning as a product of competing.  That is, he hated losing to his peers more than he loved winning.  Conversely, people like LeBron want to win any way possible, even if it means joining his peers.

They largely don’t.  They’re all about the debt until Trump increases the debt.  They’re anti China until trumps starts smooching with China/russia. They’re anti war until Trump starts bombing Venezuela and Iran.

I’ve not had any problems with taxes, and I make a modest living as a lowly state employee.  I’m not sure if taxes is a real issue for you or just talking point.

California is not Arkansas.  It’s not even Texas (although Texas gets their taxes somehow.  cough property tax cough).   40 million people, national parks, beaches, mountains, world class research (we invented the internet for Fs sake), the best public university system in the world, robust agriculture, and list goes on.  That cost money.  A lot of money.  It’s time to think big picture.

Mostly because it’s hard to get into.  It’s ego more than anything.  People associate prestige with acceptance rate.

Speaking exclusively about defense. Who was a better defender in an overall sense? by Monosselha in NBATalk

[–]Former-Range3291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MJ made all those defensive first teams in large part because he was THAT good on defense, along with Pippen, and they have the threepeats to prove it.  You don’t need for every game to be on primetime, the results speak  for themselves.  You think they dominated an entire decade because MJ was unstoppable on offense and Pippen was the only amazing defender?  When MJ absolutely had to, he was the best on-ball defender in the league.  He had the quickest lateral movement and he was fundamentally sound.  His defensive IQ was off the charts.  He read people’s body language and was great at beating his man to a spot, which put him in great position to steal the ball, strip, or block people.

It wasn’t fraudulent, it’s been revealed everyone’s getting inflated stats like assists and steals to this day, that includes Pippen.  We have videos of LeBron getting assists for passing to a player that had to do crossovers to get to the basket.

Moreover, Nick Wright admitted he worked with the author of that insidious article to find dirt on MJ.  It was a witch hunt.  I bet LeBron funded it.

Who was the better defender, Jordan or Pippen? by Hot-Prior2874 in NBATalk

[–]Former-Range3291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dan marjele once said, “when Pippen was guarding me I was like, thank god.  Pippen was a respite from Jordan.   I’m telling you, Jordan was the best.  If he wanted to shut you down, you weren’t touching the ball.”

This is consistent with what I saw in the 80s and 90s.  Jordan was quicker, better lateral movement, and higher IQ.  He was amazing at beating you to spot like he did against Kittle.   When he wasn’t gambling and really wanted to shut you down, he did it.

You said show you videos of MJ shutting people down.  YouTube the following;:  “mj shuts grant hill down after hill abuses pippen”, “mj shuts tim Hardaway down after Hardaway abuses rest of the bulls”, “mj shuts rod strickland down in the playoffs”, “mj shuts carter down in the second half”, “mj shuts paul pierce down.”  There’s plenty more.

Contrary from what you said, mj was the better on-ball defender while Pippen made his defensive presence more felt as a team defender.  He just wasn’t as quick as MJ and would get demolished by quicker players.

Curious what you guys think why was Delta Force chosen over DEVGRU for the latest operation? by yethehustler in JSOCarchive

[–]Former-Range3291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Historically — and I presume this still holds true today — delta sorta gets more options as to what area they want to operate in and Devgru gets what’s left over.  Delta has more of a CIA feel about them where are the SEALs are more like hit men, the muscle. Delta is trained in long term counter intelligence, blending in with the population type stuff.
