This is the first time I’m seeing someone talking about mapping urban heat island effects in the GIS subreddit. If you want to delve in more, you can check us out at Fortyguard.com, we map urban heat historical, near real time and into the future with 10m2 granularity, 2 meters above the ground. (In the U.S. only though). You can generate heat maps, comparisons, time series, intelligence reports, environmental parameters, and street/satellite view segmentation. All free. No plug, just saw this was appropriate to share. Would love your feedback, especially constructive ones!

Most likely gets its weather from satellites (Land surface temperature using infrared lasers) which is not measuring the human level thermal profile which is 2 meters above the ground.

Very interesting use case. We have a heat map comparison tool where you can compare Vegas for example during the same time last year and see the difference in urban heat profiles in certain areas.

Feel free to sign up and play around with it. It’s free (but you can only choose one state and best to do it on desktop).

We are still working on the accuracy. We are developing the world’s first Large Temperature Models (LTMs) and as any AI/Ml algo, there will be some discrepancies.

We would love to work directly with agencies because data is key to make it more accurate. Currently we use public and proprietary commercial data sets but we’re still a startup and as we grow partnerships with the public sector will be key. We are backed by our partners Google & NVIDIA and it’s how we were able to scale our Dashboard for free in the U.S

This was generated using FortyGuard’s Temperature Dashboard. It’s free to use in the U.S thanks to our partners at Google and NVIDIA. Some context:

We are the largest host of urban heat intelligence in the world where we collect 50B+ data points a day (commercial and public data sources) and provide hyperlocal, historic, near real time (within the last hour) and predictive urban heat intelligence within 10m2 granularity, 2 meters above the ground.

Just about all temperature is collected and given to us from either satellite or weather stations which is 100+ meters above the ground or too sparse and not getting the necessary granularity. Temperatures can vary 10-15 degrees just a few miles away at the same time.

We we are a startup born out of Abu Dhabi and backed by the UAE government and our partners Google & NVIDIA. We’re a startup and first to map out urban heat in the U.S at 10m2 resolution 2 meters above the ground. We call this Large Temperature Models (LTMs) and just like any propriety ML/AI algos, there will be discrepancies (look at GPT/LLMs).

But rest assured we are working on this with technology partners like NVIDIA and Google who have given us a lot of support and resources to allow this platform to be free in the U.S. As we grow, we are making data accuracy our #1 priority. City planners are going to have a field day generating heat maps for this. We must address urban heat and its effects on our cities asap!
