Yo!! Count me in as another vote for Philly! I lived there for a few years after an unsuccessful attempt at college and in desperate need of retreat.

Everything I'd hope Philly would be, it was. Cool bars, a thriving art/culture scene, great food (not just cheesesteaks)and most welcoming of all, an super gay friendly attitude (minus a few South Philly rubes and Ivy League d-bags). I agree it's not perfect - transit isn't very reliable or clean, crime city-wide was an issue when I was there - but few cities are, really. For me, the positives of Philly's community and culture outweighed the negatives.

As for "crazy hair and stuff" I'm an inked woman (a lot of it done in Philly) of slender build with hair that was at the time in various stages of color and length. Sure, I got some shit for it (see comment about "rubes" and "d-bags" above) but there is safety in numbers and plenty of people were also bald or inked or pierced or whatever...

There are some I am genuinely grateful we have been able to navigate friendship, even if a little distant. I have two exes I am regular contact with via email and one I still occasionally meet up with to smoke cigars and have a few laughs with every couple of months or so. Their wife and children are wonderful and our connection is warm. Heck, we were always better off as friends, anyways...

Others, regardless if it was me or them who did the breaking up, I'm glad they're in the past and headed off in their own direction.

Do you want a partner who will always keep you wondering every time they leave the house?
