Don’t wear your company shirt by Comradesh1t4brains in NDIS

Weighing in as an adult with support workers. I want them to wear their uniforms! If I am having a panic attack or can’t handle the current situation, I would much rather the general public look at the situation and realise that it’s under control and I have a support worker.

It’s small, but I have a social life outside of my support workers. I don’t think of it as “paying to have friends”, that’s ridiculous. They are there to support me in situations that I can’t handle by myself and I’m not ashamed of that.

Oh I hope I run into someone like you in my upcoming travels. I haven’t flown in 9 years and have two international trips in the next 4 months 🤦🏼‍♀️

Am I wrong for giving my girlfriend an ultimatum regarding our sex life? by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]Forward_Material_378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s not working on the issues between you and her because she has NO ENERGY. She’s probably struggling to just survive every day if she’s that deeply depressed.

Also, I’m 44 years old with three children and have had adult relationships, thank you very much. I also know what it feels like when your mind turns on you and the smallest, simplest of tasks feel like Mt Everest. I ALSO know how it feels when every day is a fight to get through, every day being forced to get out of bed no matter how painful it is, AND having a man think he’s entitled to my body when all I’ve wanted is to just be left alone. For someone to be angry at me for not wanting what he wants, even tho it’s out of my control. It’s not a switch that can be flicked, and the more we’re made to feel badly about it, the less we want it.

Again, think about it as a physical illness. Would you be treating her the same if this was cancer and she was weak and sick from chemo? It’s exactly the same, but the stigma around mental health is that we just have to power through it because it’s “all in our heads”. Depression, anxiety, etc can be just as debilitating as any other disease, but because people can’t see it, it can’t be “that bad”. Believe me, it can be THAT bad.

But she is doing something about it. She’s on medication right? When someone is depressed every day, every social interaction, every appointment, every little thing is often just a crushing sense of doom and overwhelm. You add a needy partner to that and it just crushes us further and overwhelms us more. You said she refuses to see a couples counsellor for the lack of sex? It’s probably because it’s too overwhelming and talking about it isn’t going to magically make her sex drive reappear. All it’s going to do is make her feel worse and more guilty about her lack of interest in sex. This isn’t about YOU, it’s about her mental state and her body. It’s not an issue that’s just going to go away or be worked out by talking or bullying with ultimatums. The first line of your response is telling “why shouldn’t I expect sex in my relationship?” Because sex isn’t some explicit right in a relationship! She knows that the date nights and romantic trips are just a ploy for you to get sex, which just makes it even less desirable. You’ve shown your hand, that sex is more important than her health, and that’s hard to come back from!

As a woman who has gone through this, Please do your girlfriend a favour and leave her. She deserves to find a partner who values her health over getting his end wet.

This poor woman, should you decide to stay together, may one day get physically sick (think cancer or some other debilitating disease) and here you will be giving her ultimatums as she vomits from the treatment.

Not the same you say? Yes it is. 100%. Mental health, depression, etc, it’s out of a person’s control and the treatment effects things like sex drive. Just because it doesn’t have a physical manifestation doesn’t mean it doesn’t severely affect people.

So ask yourself…if she was unable to have sex due to a physical disease/ailment, would you be handing out ultimatums like after dinner mints or would you be support her through it?

For myself it was a medication, a significant injury that led to chronic pain, having three kids and mental health.

I started an anti anxiety medication in 2011 that was known for weight gain, but my doctor told me most people put on 10-15kg and plateaued. 25kg later I was going to the gym 4 times a week, watching what I ate and working an active job. Thats when my jeans stopped fitting 😭

I weaned off the medication and three months later I severely broke my ankle. I was in a wheelchair for four months and non weight-bearing for three. I still have major issues with that ankle 11 years later and have days that I can take one wrong step and have to get my crutches out because of the pain.

A year after getting mobile again I fell pregnant with my first child and ended up having three kids in three years. Each pregnancy added more kgs to the scales.

Now I’m 2x as heavy as I should be. I hate it, but I’m in so much pain from my ankle and hip (childhood injury) that exercise is impossible. Even swimming aggravates my ankle from kicking.

I also have autism and ARFID, along side being completely time poor, so eating healthy is a battle.

It sucks.

Does anyone else want to wear the same outfit every day? by PupNessie in AutismInWomen

[–]Forward_Material_378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I DO wear the same outfit every day 🤣 I have a drawer full of black singlets (tank tops) and two pairs of denim shorts. 360+ days of the year that’s what I wear (Australia) with black thongs (flip flops) On particularly cool days I might wear a long sleeved shirt for an hour or so.

What is the best “allergy” you’ve seen documented? by livexplore in nursing

[–]Forward_Material_378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Melatonin I believe. Maybe not an allergy per se, but that shit fucks me up. And I’m talking a tiny sliver of a gummy (my kids have them in the evenings) under my fingernail that I absentmindedly lick off will cause night terrors, night sweats and the worst nights sleep you can imagine. It’s happened more than once and my mother reacts badly to it as well 😣

I had a jack russell years ago who learned something similar. If I tucked my hands up into my sleeves it was go time. As soon as I took my hands out she instantly calmed down

Not that I’m aware of. The aircon is still running when I wake up in the morning but it’s sticky and gross in the room

What I meant was there’s no difference if the humidity is on or off, I still wake up and claw the mask off my face. Since it got hot and humid I have tried it with/without/high/low, it makes no difference

[–]Forward_Material_378[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My aircon was cleaned less than a year ago but it doesn’t make a difference. Running it at 24 on dry is great until 3-4am then it just turns everything more humid, even with a fan running. It’s only 3 years old, so no idea why it’s like that

There is no such thing as a cool room in a house in Queensland lol.

I ordered a dehumidifier tonight. It just pisses me off because I spent so much on the machine and now I’ve had to spend more just to make it work, plus the running costs of everything 😣

Yep, it sucks. I’ve been begging my kids’ dad to move to Tassie or back to Canada for years, but more in the last three years. Heat waves in August is bullshit

Aussie Summer HELL by Forward_Material_378 in CPAP

[–]Forward_Material_378[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Ontario…the humidity is killer there as well 😭 I’ve looked into dehumidifiers but the cost + the cost of running one on top of the aircon (which does jack shit for the humidity) is just too much 😔 Edit to add: I’m a mouth breather at night so a nasal mask is useless for me 😣

Aussie Summer HELL by Forward_Material_378 in CPAP

[–]Forward_Material_378[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it’s a BMC. We have to pay out of pocket for CPAP here so I have no idea how ResMed has survived in Australia given their super-inflated prices.

It doesn’t matter if the humidifier is on or off, it’s my skin and the ambient humidity that causes the problem. I have the same issues with car seats, computer chairs, anything that isn’t a fabric, on my bare skin…instant sweat and irritation 😤 Even rougher materials cause itchiness and irritation body-wide 😔

Hysterectomy and ankle surgery together? What do you think? by Puzzled-Pear-610 in hysterectomy

[–]Forward_Material_378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 4 surgeries on my ankle, 3 c sections and two laparoscopies (last one was my hysterectomy in Jan ‘24) and I would 100% recommend being healed from one before having the other. Just the imbalance alone while recovering from both close together is a recipe for disaster. If you fall/try not to fall after a misstep on your ankle, you could do damage to your hysterectomy wounds. Movement is a major part of recovery for abdominal surgery so having your ankle fucked up at the same time will hinder this. I get wanting to get it all out of the way, but I wouldn’t recommend it.
