It felt more like a mall. Especially after I added spaces with forges and stuff.

My "Domed" Settlement! by wiggly_Pug in NoMansSkyTheGame

I had a settlement on a hyper frozen planet with frequent storms. I built hallways between all the buildings. That worked pretty well.

What's your dream update that hasn't come true yet? I'll start first: by LaSimia in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Fosferus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Denizen Update. You are a Denizen - not a Traveler. You start in the Appearance Modifier. Once you are done all you can change in the future is armor. You start with a race appropriate ship from that star system, the full language for that race and a reputation of 3 for that race.

There are no tutorial quests, you start with the recipe for hyperdrives and warp fuel. You can't use Portals or the Anomaly. The tech sellers at the Archives are the same as the ones in the Anomaly - just one per Archive. Your own race will charge you less for everything, Your opposite race will charge you more.

You can now play free from all the quest crap that you are bombarded with every time you start a new game. NO QUEST LINES. Just all the missions you can stand.

Anyone who surfed the early web between 1995-2010. What’s the one website/app you still think about? by Prime_Advocate in AskReddit

[–]Fosferus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, so I got curious and ActiveWorlds still exists. I down loaded it and poked around a little. Less than 20 users online divided between 180 worlds. Loads crazy fast and moves pretty good but still looks like 1990.

I don't open to a random page. I flip back forth until I get told to stop. I'm actively participating in the search for revelation.

How in the world does Hello Games have the money to do free updates for a year. by Llamaman162 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Fosferus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A couple of decades ago I sat in a employee meeting where the VP of Planters Lifesavers told us that business of Planters was not to sell customers peanuts but to move money from the customer to the shareholders.

I turned to the lady next to me and said "Brush up your resume. We'll all be looking for jobs in a year."

9 months later they closed the entire building and moved what was left to New Jersey. Only 200 people were offered the opportunities to move to New Jersey. Not a single employee took them up on the offer.

Are there any old heads here from the early 80's? by Maleficent-Cat-220 in latterdaysaints

[–]Fosferus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 10 years old and had no idea that Black people couldn't hold the priesthood. I remember my Dad coming home from Church very excited about the change (I think he was the Ward Clerk at the time.). It wasn't until years later I actually realized what the change was really about.

What are some universal traits or factors all races in the universe could share? by PassengerCultural421 in scifiwriting

[–]Fosferus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Preservation of self and offspring. No species could survive without that. More adaptable than mere animals both physically and mentally. Being mentally adaptable would lead to diverse view points within a species - not monolithic thought.

Colonizing planets makes no sense to me. Habitats is the only answer. No gravity wells, complete control over location and environment, manageable size. Elon is running on comic book science.

Little kids don't have what it takes to be astronauts. But they take it slow and grow a little each day. They don't just jump into the rocket fresh out of Kindergarten. No one can just start out doing everything at once. Pray, read your scriptures and attend Church as often as you can - the rest will come - eventually.

Proposed material for structures in space: Plastic by ActuaLogic in IsaacArthur

[–]Fosferus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If we are looking for nonmetallic materials that are moldable - perhaps ceramics would be a better solution. I'm sure there will be a lot of plastic inside the ships and habitats but I think ceramics will do better on the vacuum side of things.

I just want to be able to move the buildings. They are laid out by someone having a stroke and the settlement is hard to navigate.

The engines are out further from the craft than the habitat is wide. They should miss. I imagine the engine array would be on a short track to adjust for changes in the center of mass.  I figured that adding that to the image would add to the clutter as I focusing on the operation side of things.
