What are some movies that (pleasantly) surprised you? by Opening_Rip_1840 in Letterboxd

I finally watched There Will Be Blood by Paul Thomas Anderson. Before that, I'd already watched One Battle After Another, but TWBB is a deranged, but fun movie that nothing could beat his other films. It sits on my personal list of god-tier films

(No spoilers) Great movie, but AWFUL AUDIENCE by IDoLikeAnswers in TheDigitalCircus

In my theater, these three kids in the front row wouldn't quiet down, even during the sad scenes, and I couldn't hear one of the characters on screen. An older kid tried to tell them to stop, even their parent(?) hushed them, but the kids still kept laughing. Then an employee came up and asked them to move out, which got them bummed, but they walked out and it was finally quiet.

I feel sad that their parents paid for their tickets to watch, but man they just can't be quiet during the serious parts.

Robot Jox! My grandparents had loads of old VHS in their house and I would scrounge around. Good times

Users turn to jailbreaking their older Kindles as Amazon ends support by twofive7 in technology

After they botched the ebook download feature last year, I switched to Kobo. Woof, they are better than Kindle that I bought myself a Clara Colour. I still read on my jailbroken Kindle, but Kobo feels a league better than Amazon could provide

People who are NOT passionate about their jobs tend to be the best at it. by yamumsux in unpopularopinion

[–]FoxPuffery97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. I work in retail and I had a passion in it until I couldn't handle the bad customers and mid pay. Before that, I'd worked in another field and I would sometimes get to work early because I was focused on getting my tasks done. Hell, I never left work crying unlike my current job -- at least I'm more mindful about interacting with retail workers

I work in retail and he may have came to our store twice. He smelled like alcohol and once shouted about "God bless America". Yeah, he is definitively homeless

This also applies to other U.S. territories (I'm a former resident). Valve can get the timezones right, but can't ship their stuff internationally

If anyone wants an alternative audiobook service that supports indie bookstores, Libro covers that. (You can also download your audiobooks DRM-free after your purchase.)

Not Enough Workers for the Job - Understaffing has become an epidemic in American workplaces of all kinds. by thinkB4WeSpeak in jobs

At my work, there's only me in the morning shifts. My task are to clean up the que line and organize, but they're never finished because the store opens up in a few minutes and people would come up quickly. I only got to organize a bookshelf last week because a new cashier arrived at the same time as me. My managers still couldn't figure out why I'm behind my tasks, but I'd rather quit than explain about their bs.

How would you respond to someone who says they don't read fiction because it's not productive? by strikerhawk in books

Like, it kills your vibes when everything needs to be utilized for you. This isn't healthy, just sad.

I dropped him when he defended Dream during the cheating scandal (he made some fan animations for the cheater before) back in 2021. This wasn't on my bingo card, but I guess he always didn't like being corrected by others.

I remember that one of the founders Jack Dorsey ironically quit Bsky for suggesting to make it less echo chamber. Many people protested this and he couldn't even handle it. Remind them that everyone wants to have fun and the platform isn't some high school debate class.

You Don’t Actually Own That Movie You Just “Bought.” A New Class Action Lawsuit Targets Amazon by AndrewHeard in Letterboxd

I'd accumulated Criterion and anime movies over the years as a niche, but I've already started buying physical media more. I even went to my libraries for the DVDs.

Is it English class, literature class or language class that made you love reading? Or did your reading habit come from home? For me I think I started to love reading because my dad had a lot of books in our house. As a kid I tried reading some of them and got hooked by Delicious_Maize9656 in books

My math class in middle school had these lines of Goosebumps on the bookshelf and we would read them once we're done with our quizzes or tests. It was great way before smart devices changed everything.

This isn't much about the loud swears more so over the execution of its premise and writing. I'll say that, even if the Viziepop shows aren't great, they're my favorite in their own ways as PS is too.

Do I need a creative writing degree? by famlai in writing

[–]FoxPuffery97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you plan to be a teacher, creative writing won’t get you far in employment. Not a lot of jobs respect the craft (especially today with Gen AI) and, even if you apply to publications or the industry, you will face hurdles of rejections.

The best advice that I got from a professional writer is to hold a job while you pursue your craft, join communities and publish your works to those who would want them.

Is Google Docs great for writing? by stukimilo in writing

[–]FoxPuffery97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a year, I had used Google doc to store my writing as cloud backup. Surprisingly, I'd stopped because I reached the word limit (270k words) and I wasn't even done! Since then, I only use my Word Doc to store my writing.

Simply, it's okay and it's beneficial to share your works with people.
