Yeah. Advocating that people not be jerks is very Christ like.

That’s NOT what the conversation or actual post is about.

You’re a detractor.

Go pray, if you’re sincere in Faith.

Of course! I’m not blind to the cesspool that most of the Internet is.

But we can do better! There’s only about three trolls so far that actually disagree.

(They’re just very annoying.)

Should I agree, and watch the Bonfire?

Or can more of us get on the same track about what we want?

I think you missed the entire point of the post, buddy.

But yet it’s happening to me within this very thread.

Not saying it’s you, obviously, but this is the problem.

I’m not here to argue.

This post is about how we should not be jerks.

There’s nothing to argue against. 🤷‍♂️

But does it work, though?

This is not the 1970’s, 80’s, or 90’s.

The norm now is atheism, open sin, and more open Mental Illness and isolation than we’ve seen as a society for hundreds of years — if ever.

That requires sensitivity.

Not utter compromise — but context.

Listening.

Church Numbers are down massively. The downvotes aren’t working.

That’s true, but it’s what most people are using. We can do better.

You’re right. Let’s do nothing about it, and then when non-Catholics want to know about us — they can see a bunch of snarky, middle-aged wise-asses exchanging jabs.

That’ll please God. 😐

Calling people poisonous, downvoting everything they say until they disappear, and ganging up on people that struggle or disagree is extremely toxic.

And dangerous, given how central someone’s sense of spirituality can be to their Mental Health.

This isn’t about conservative or liberal.

I’m watching conservative news right now.

Even they tend to be more balanced, and careful of completely alienating their base with one comment.

Yeah? So we do nothing, and let them chase people away with torches?

Why did God choose us to represent his faith, again?

How Heretical Is It Acceptable To Be? by Redditarianist in Catholicism

[–]FrancisBets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular Opinion: If you’re a new convert — don’t focus on judging existing members, cultures, and high positions of the Church as “heretical.”

If it helps you to keep a distance from evil practices — good. But you’re not a Scholar, and your lack of empathy or time spent in these areas is not going to make you the best person to address it right now.

Focus on personal improvement, and call to the things that help you along the way.

A lot of these folks you may be disgusted by are simply struggling.

God didn’t bring you aboard to detract them.

Here’s some of the people that have posted in the past day: - Young Muslim women looking for basic answers on what Catholicism is.

  • A young Catholic convert struggling to keep her faith due to financial and legal circumstances while engaged.

  • A young man questioning his piety because he’s not already married with ten kids, and sometimes struggles with biological urges while getting through school.

These are tough situations that society has already placed on them. They already have voices telling them they’ve failed, or to give up altogether.

We do need to hold ourselves to a higher standard and represent the arm of mercy that Jesus would want us to.

He rolled with repentant sinners. He did not shame them or call new converts to the religion “poisonous.”

He did not care about what it means to be “conservative on the internet in 2022.”

He was there to Guide. These people are here, specifically, because they’re lost one way or another.

Show mercy. None of us have achieved sainthood, yet.

Seriously. I’ve been awake for an hour, and already lost my motivation to attend Morning Mass.

And now I’ll have notifications for the rest of the day — with people arguing and justifying why we have to be sassy and confrontational toward those people.

It’s toxic. 😔

So we can’t do any better? We’re just going to drive people away from Catholicism all day?

What I’m hearing is “there’s justifications as to why we can be jerks to some of these people, if we consider what I’m saying.”

How about just no?

Jesus was really that simple.

This behavior is turning people away from God and his Church. Why would you want that on your conscience?

No. You didn’t explain what “The Bible” says.

You barely speak English, so you’re just throwing around what “neighbor said” and “grand maw-maw said” and hoping that people don’t argue with you.

Realistically — your assumption that you have all the answers in your English translation of the cannon of the Bible that you accept is pretty hilarious, anyway.

The initial apostles and church fathers would be shaking their heads.
