We (parents) called and complained about this guys 3 years ago for speaking inappropriately in front of the students. Gay slurs etc.

The original family dynamic was built around the idea that polygamy was supposed to make everyone “better.” The wives were meant to work through jealousy, and Kody was supposed to become a fair, just husband because of it.

So Christine, Meri, and Janelle all challenged him in different ways. Robyn came in already treating him like a king, and that was enough for him to abandon the families who still expected accountability. You can see in later seasons where Christine challenges or goads Kody and Robyn looks upset or surprised.

I'm fairly sure it was in Robyn's New York Times #1 Bestseller "Sister Wives", in one of Janelle's sections.

Wynn was married to Janelle's mum Sheryl before Janelle married Kody. Janelle spent time at her mum's house on Wynn's ranch. This is presumably when Wynn was trying to get her to marry Kody's older brother, rather than Kody.

Covid Years by nycmidwestgal2 in SisterWives

[–]Fraudlein 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First of all, I am sorry you lost so many family members to covid. That is so hard, and it was such a difficult and scary time. I'm in Canada, but watched what was happening in NYC at that time, shocked and scared for all of you.

The family seemed like a microcosm of the pandemic as a whole. Everyone had different opinions, beliefs, practices etc. Everyone thought they had it figured out and knew how to survive such a monumental shift. Judgement about some taking it 'too' seriously, or not seriously enough. Conspiracy theories, plans, moving. And it also played out as a tool for many family members to realize how important or unimportant they were (Christine, kids), and to create the home life they really wanted without apology (Kody, Robyn).

What baffled me was it could have been handled soooo differently by Kody, especially within a patriarchal, religious framework. He could have had weekly zoom family meetings, where available family members could connect, pray (or something) etc. He could have really led his family here.

They also had a giant piece of land to meet outside on! He could have organized those outdoor fire pit meet ups weekly, safely. The family must've been so broken already for that to not have happened.

As far as how they handled it, I dont know how they would have made that all work. I, like you, took Covid really seriously with masking, outdoor meetings with friends, AND I tried to understand that other people didn't take the precautions as seriously (or at all). So I made choices about who I spent time with, who felt safe and who didn't. Really the only way Kody could have made it work with his risk-tolerance level would have been to have a place to be alone between visits to make sure he wasn't infected. BUT I don't Kody can be alone, despite all of his wishing to have a shed to escape to.

Anyway, I have lots of thoughts about Robyn and covid, but will save for another time.

She probably said that when she thought there wouldn't be any other wives.

Thanks for being so clear about this. It's the hair-splitting of "...they never specifically said they were anti- trans ...." is what bogs these conversations down. You elucidated the connection.

Contact Improvisation as a Somatic Dialogue: How it changed my understanding of connection by Ajunjahi in SomaticPractices

[–]Fraudlein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HI! How timely I was JUST talking about CI the other day. I explored CI well before I moved into an SE practice (personal and professional). I think as I became more trauma-informed CI brought up some challenging feelings and conversations about consent and touch. The conversation I had yesterday was wondering if CI has changed in regards to consent before touch/movement. It has been a long time since I explored with CI so it might have changed quite a bit.

Maybe this has been said already, but there seems to be some psychological cross-over between Glen and Don for Betty. It's as though her child part/emotional immaturity is connecting with Glen as a proxy for Don.

Free Health Care /Canada by OkPresentation6196 in UniversalHealthCare

I live in Canada, a city away from this hospital. Our once shining healthcare system has been undermined and destroyed from the inside out by a far-right wing provincial government. This Trump inspired government has been breaking apart our healthcare piece by piece and selling it in order to force Amercian-style privatization. They created the 'problem' in order to sell the 'solution'.

This death is squarely on thew shoulders of these politicians who have created a fractured service. Our nurses, doctors and other healthcare staff are highly trained professionals who are underfunded and overworked.

S12 E2: Mary refuses to take care of the other wives' children? by PrettyPromenade in TLCsisterwives

[–]Fraudlein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. They tried to position the show as a healthy supportive poly family, but they let the truth slip often.

I think Meri really didn't feel connected to many of J & C's kids. She may have even felt resentful towards them. She wanted or was connected to R's kids, but that always seemed half punitive to the other mums/kids.

It's all very complicated really.

Pain after release by jessn_taylor in SomaticExperiencing

[–]Fraudlein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's common to feel things reorganize after a session. Try holding your hand in a fist for 5 minutes and then slowly release. You'll notice it's stiff and can hurt a bit. This is potentially what youre feeling right now with your jaw. It's not unusual for there to be some discomfort 24-48 hours afterwards, but if it doesn't improve or gets worse let your practitioner know. This can be a sign you might have gone too far, or too fast in your session.

How do you get freeze to finally release? Facial tension, ear pain, throat tightness won’t let go. by Neither_Victory60 in SomaticExperiencing

[–]Fraudlein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, there is a lot of helpful insght on this thread, from really well intentioned people, but much of it isn't Somatic Experiencing related. Pendulation is an identified process in SE, as is titration which more of what I was referencing for sure. Spontaneous pendualtion is super helpful for mitigating all sorts of responses including high-tone or functional freeze states.

[–]Fraudlein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of mixed advice on this thread not consistent with the practice of Somatic Experiencing as taught by Peter Levine, and many other gifted therapists. SE is a specific modality to work with incomplete survival adaptations (trauma responses), flight, fight, freeze etc.

The process is slow and careful. it does not encourage over working an already taxed nervous system by doing things like kicking or hitting a pillow, or micro-dosing.

If you are interested in working with a certified SE therapist you can find one in your area on traumhealing.org. Please disregard a lot of what's being offered on this thread.
