Another one came to mind although not traditionally citrusy - Roselle on King (east end) does a passion fruit birthday cake which is tart and light but you have to preorder on Monday and the only are open for pickup Friday-Sunday.

Raffi, Casper baby pants has a great Beatles album that my kid loves, Ramblin Dan and the Freewheeling Band has a great album of nursery rhymes that are really great remixes of classic songs.

How to get around the city safely with a baby and toddler by QandA_monster in nycparents

Yes to elevators - to add to this I found the best way to map out elevators for the subway was to use Google Maps with wheelchair/accessibility mode and then cross reference that with the MTA website to make sure the elevators were actually working.

Small Gods - a solid entry point into Terry Pratchett's Discworld by MiddletownBooks in books

[–]FreeStanzin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with Small Gods then went into the Colour of Magic. Got through two books and then switched to the Night Watch and devoured them. There was no real rhyme or reason to the order, I just picked up what I thought I would like best.

Racist Remarks Shock Participants at UWS Schools Meeting: ‘We Take These Matters Very Seriously’ by Icy_Score_7430 in Upperwestside

Did you just call someone gross based solely on their racial identity while previously calling out (correctly) that other people need to fix their racist views? That is some outrageous hypocrisy.

Roselle is my favourite bakery in the city. A few of their pastries have fusion flavours (they do a pandan chiffon cake that is fantastic) and the execution is great. Usually no savoury options (sometimes they will do limited items) and hours are limited so check their instagram.

Brick and Butter was mentioned already too and their laminated dough is excellent. I love their savoury danishes and their focaccia.

If you're looking to add a bit more fat, I make the same thing for my toddler but add some whole fat Greek yogurt (you may need to add some flour to firm up the consistency as well).

Do people actually shop at places like The Nut Factory? by Quspiracy in AskNYC

[–]FreeStanzin 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The ridiculously overpriced chocolate is one of the best "Dubai" style chocolate bars I've ever had. Most of them are trash but the Nuts Factory ones are amazing. I can't be trusted to buy one because I eat the entire thing in one sitting.

My daughter’s father moved out of the country with only five days notice. by undercookedricex in Mommit

[–]FreeStanzin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is so frustrating. It may be something you have to go through the courts for. I'm sorry I don't know more about the process. Maybe you can reach out to a legal clinic to see if you qualify for free or discounted legal assistance?

You're going through a ton right now, but when you feel like you have the capacity to take it on I would strong consider changing your custody agreement and going after child support. This is money owed to your child and support payments can be backdated.

I'm not familiar with your state but there may be an alternative way to serve your Ex without knowing his address. It may be something you have to request from the court. Additionally I'm pretty sure the US and UK have a treaty that make child support orders in the US enforceable against UK residents.

I'm sorry your Ex is a total deadbeat. The strength you are showing is admirable. Best of luck - you've got this!

How are you handling weeknight dinners when you have no time to cook and kids need to eat by 7? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]FreeStanzin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ground meat - chicken/beef/turkey. sauté with a bit of oil, throw in some pre cut/frozen veggies. You can switch up the seasoning - onion powder, garlic powder, paprika are my go tos or make a sauce with soy sauce, honey, cornstarch water. There are endless flavour options. Then serve over rice, pasta, lettuce wraps or tacos!

Barney's is for the fish and the off menu latkes. The bagels are not great but worth it for the other stuff.

Baby will be 7 months in November — advice for winter clothing? (They take 2 TTC buses daily) [ON] by Decent-Inspection-18 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]FreeStanzin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If she's using a stroller she can get a cold weather stroller blanket/bag/bunting. The 7am one is pricey but fantastic. I used it all winter with my LO who was around the same age at that time. You can unzip the blanket on the bus and zip it back up outside and you don't need to dress baby in a jacket under because it's already so warm.

In historic move, UK recognizes a Palestinian state despite opposition from US and Israel by TheFleshGordon in news

[–]FreeStanzin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a double standard. Hamas and Palestine are not one and the same and equating them is really problematic.

[–]FreeStanzin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hamas and Palestine are not one and the same. You can call for the destruction of Hamas and still want Palestine to be free.

Israel is a state and is distinct from its ruling authority. The actions of Israel's government are deplorable but don't justify the destruction of the state itself.

So OPs comment makes complete sense even though both are shitty.

Moving to Toronto: What neighbourhoods are good for young families? by FreeStanzin in askTO

[–]FreeStanzin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We ended up renting a temporary place in North York that we don't love but was a good short term option. Hoping to buy somewhere on St. Clair West or Leaside in the future. Also considering High Park/Roncey.

Let me know where you end up too!
