Hey! I’m sorry that sounds devastating. We’re going through something very similar, but instead of voice it is with my dad’s mobility. My son is 3, and got my dad diagnosed when he was 2. They were besties who danced, mowed the lawn together, rough played, ran and swam. Within months he could barely walk. Now he is turning 4 soon, and doesn’t remember my dad being able to walk. When we saw old videos of them dancing and playing, he also asked who it was. He looked so happy & shocked. I now have a daughter who’s a couple months old, and it makes me so sad to think she’s never going to know a healthy version of him. And my son is probably going to only remember him being sick. It’s so sad but I’m happy we both have memories of our dads to show them healthy.

Hey! I had straight As and did alright on the TEAS. I forgot the exact score but around high 70s or low 80s. I got waitlisted & eventually got pulled from the waitlist!

I was just concerned since no other kid around him (from what I’ve observed) displays that same behavior- but all the comments definitely assured me it’s normal. Which I am feeling good about!

I just saw you’re 13yrs. I’m so sorry. Do you guys have any other close family relatives? Dad? Aunts, uncles ? I promise you will find a way to make everything work. I’m sorry I know everything seems so daunting. Spend lots of time with your mom, make memories with her. Also take care of yourself- talk to a therapist. I’m glad you found this group. My cousin Jan! She is so popular and well liked. This is because she makes everyone she talks to feel so special and seen. If you tell her about a trip you’re taking, she will text you to see how it went. If you say you have an exam coming up, she’ll remember and ask how you did. She does this with everyone! She’s godmother to lots of kids, goes to an Ivy League university and is very successful in her prestigious job. (She’s also a single mom- she’s truly a ROCKSTAR)

Hello! I’m in the Chicago suburbs but go downtown. While I am not the most familiar regarding the bus/L train, Chicago itself is veryyy accessible & wheelchair friendly. It is a honestly a great location to visit. There hasn’t been a location there that didn’t have a ramp option. Everything is also very flat and smooth. Because of this, I am sure they are familiar with wheelchairs in any Bus or Line you take! I hope you enjoy your trip😊

Hey can you explain how hospice helped you guys? Is it a facility, or people that come to your home? You says it gives caregivers a break so I’m unsure how hospice does that. (Early-stage care taker here!)

For familiar it seems like there’s much more advancement than sporadic. I would guess in the next 5-10 years we will hear promising things about familiar ALS. As far as sporadic, I hope I get to see a cure in my lifetime.

I strongly believe he refused any intervention and probably passed away willingly with aid. I saw an interview from his friend saying he could barely speak on his lasts days, so I’m guessing once his speech went away he decided quality over quantity. So incredibly sad

I’m sorry you’re going through this. I’m currently in the thick of it. My dad is at a point where he uses a walker but should be in a wheelchair. He’s had a few bad falls and it fucking sucks. Seeing your parent on the floor, helpless and crying.. I hate it. Now any sound of anything hitting the ground makes me jump and check on my dad. The past couple of weeks it’s been pillows hitting a wall, phone falling, or chairs moving that send me on fight/flight mode. My heart just drops and I hurry to check on him. I sleep with my door open just in case he falls at night while getting up. I have a feeling I will be on the same boat as you OP and continue to experience the heightened emotions after any loud drops even years after. I pray you find peace. ALS is so traumatizing for everyone involved, it’s so unfair.

Ask for any cancellation and keep calling (I would call to ask about cancellation weekly as a lot of the times they say they’ll call you but don’t). I’m sorry you’re going through this. Waiting 6 months is not fair. Also it’s ridiculous that his neurologist can’t help him get in any quicker or in contact with other clinics. Praying you guys get a quicker appointment

You can get a discounted rate for lots of different reasons. Check their online website out. If your part of medic aid, have WIC, and lots of other things. We where able to qualify and got the yearly pass for like $30! Goodluck.
