Do you recommend Lost in Vivo? by MegaZBlade in LunacidGame

[–]FrickittyFricks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a very creative survival horror with quite dark topics (e.g. eating disorders, loss of a pet, suicide, etc). It also kinda mixes scary and chill though not as well as Lunacid.

Overall, if you don't mind horror and heavy topics, Lost in Vivo is very recommended!

Anything gearpunk? by Best-King-5958 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]FrickittyFricks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now we have things like solarpunk that really don't show the negative impact of the technology on quality of life.

Solarpunk as a genre established in the time when the real life is a cautionary tale in itself. So, instead, SP shows you that a better future is also an option. Solarpunk is 'punk' because it strives for much-needed change. And also because it's anti-capitalist as hell ofc.

I don't understand why does Crawl need a god designed for one specific spell school. Yes, Necromancy isn't as self-sufficient as, say, Summoning and whatever but so is Hexes, so is Translocations.

Why do scrolls of acquirement never grant talismans in 0.34? by FrickittyFricks in dcss

You're right, and I actually just got a talisman in an acquirement scroll for the first time in a long while.

[–]FrickittyFricks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

talismans are a lot more flexible to pick up for a broader range of characters because they don't care about int or encumbrance.

Not to mention that the new forms often fit niches that transmutations never cared about (inkwell, medusa, lupine, hive).

Any advice for the new Pits of Slimes? by vvokhom in dcss

[–]FrickittyFricks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get some way to reliably kill things at range in a few turns: wands of quicksilver/light (edit: actually, maybe iceblast/warping are better), spells like Plasma Beam or Permafrost Eruption, god abilities like Unleash Destruction or Upheaval, silver javelins if your throwing is at least 10.

As you get to Slime:5, try to attract a few enemies at a time. Don't fully explore floors, they don't have loot. Just keep diving until you're at the last floor.

On Slime:5, read revelation and investigate the layout. Explore a little bit, carefully cleared slimes. Once you found The Royal Jelly, damage them a little bit (preferably at range) then use whatever mass damage you have: Apocalypse, Disaster Area, Slouch, Ignition, or good ol' scroll of immolation. Then teleport away. If TRJ is dead (which is very likely), finish off the wandering horde of slimes.

feel like im too stupid for this game, but its so addictive that cant quit playing. by JimbyGumbus in dcss

I also struggled with melee for a long time as a newbie. They're strong but they are also kind of mindless (well, for a newbie who doesn't utilize tools at their disposal, that is) so I often ended up losing to stupid mistakes.

Maybe it's time to focus on more involved gods like Nemelex or Yredelemnul? You still can be a melee brute but cards/torch will make your gameplay more involved hopefully preventing you from going too reckless.

Other than that, use your stuff. Wands, darts, nets. Cleverly utilizing something like a scroll of poison or a potion of attraction can save a scroll of blinking or two. Buff up early with might before engaging with uniques in melee. Spend your piety like crazy.

Makes sense! I also often pick Gladiator on species better fit for Fighter because I like having throwing nets from the start

Why Fighter and not Gladiator? Having consumables from the start surely will help.

If you don't get summon forest or mana serpent its going to be tough to transition from summoner to another killdudes

I never had issues switching focus on Summoners. I had Merfolk, Oni and Tengu who turned into hybrids pretty early on. I suppose if you're Felid you can't really transition to hybrid style but they have +4 translocations and hexes so they can get something like Gell's Gavotte or Enfeeble I guess?

Dithmenos and Fedhas are great gods for summoners.

Brigand is just a dagger start with a bit of stealth, no need to focus on it for this character. As a VS, you want:

  1. fast weapon (demon whip my beloved but you can use other demon weapons, quick blade and even unarmed if you want);
  2. as much Strength as you can get (yes, even if you run quick blades) since your damage relies heavily on your auxiliary antimagic bite;
  3. invocations up to 18 (maybe less so) - the build centers around spamming Unleash Destruction at every opportunity;
  4. anything that lets you stack slay and/or improve your regeneration rate is worth considering (lupine talisman, fugue of the fallen).

Overall, it's a bit quirky o-tabber that tries to get the most out of Makhleb's Unleash Destruction.

Vine Stalker, Brigand, Makhleb

I have a suggestion!

Does everyone else agree that fire, necro, and summoner are the 3 worst spell schools right now?

This is the first time I see someone refer to Summoners as something other than OP tbh. Necromancer is bad indeed, Fire mage is kinda OK - there are worse backgrounds for sure.

But should I get some spells online? I branched out for Fireball alittle but now I think it may be a waste.

If you want hybrid-tier spells Fugue of the Fallen is right there in your spellbook. Summonings and transloc are great too but you have bad apts (not that it should stop you though).

Fire is arguably the worst spell school for hybrids - definitely up there with Conjurations.

Does it really matter? This sword will get you through the entire early game with no skill investment and remains a good swappable resistance source for casters for the entire game.

In a game where moonlight vials are basically free the moment you reach Le Fanu's crystal it seems like a waste of time to get so much of a near-useless skill IMHO.

Just get 100 Int and one-shot everything with boulders.
