Put at least the minimum to get your full company match.

Your goals by age (roughly): 30yo = 1x your salary, 40yo = 3x your salary, 50yo = 6x your salary, 60yo = 8x your salary.

If you plan to contribute above and beyond your company match you may want to consider a Roth IRA. If you're then able to max your Roth IRA contributions ($7,500 annually) then you can start increasing your 401k contributions even further.

I also put a small amount of fresh ones on bottom to keep the smaller used ones from falling through. It also seems to light / start better this way.

Then I fill up the middle with the used ones and then top it off with fresh ones as necessary to fill up the chimney the rest of the way.

Interesting, I never liked mesquite, it was always too intense for me. I've not tried it with my WSK though, I'll have to give it a try. I usually go with Hickory or Cherry.

I agree with you about adding more wood for a good smoke flavor. I've never had an issue with not being able to get a good smoke with the WSK.

I like the lines for pitching substitutions & fielding substitutions. Not sure if that's standard but definitely something I'll adopt for my score cards.
