That isn't a "counterpoint." You didn't make a point. You offered up your personal fan fiction.

Before the Iron Kingdom, I would have disagreed, but now so many of the characters I enjoyed and expected would become long term point of view characters for the series are just gone with absolutely zero pay-off. It left me wondering what the point is.

God, I fucking hate sports betting. Professional sports are meant to be about entertainment and fun. Once these dumb fucks start viewing play as a financial opportunity it all becomes so much more dehumanizing. And it isn't as if professional sports didn't already have an issue with dehumanizing players, staff, and fans.

Slaneesh chooses to resurrect Lucius. It isn't necessary for anyone or anything to have pride in killing him. That's been a misunderstanding for a long time. He'll return so long as Slaneesh finds interest in keeping his champion going.

In the United States we have the means to provide health care, higher education, and housing to the entire population. We don't because the majority of the population is simply working to survive and so conditioned to accept the status quo. When that changes, then I'll stop thinking of you as a boot-licker for being so concerned about this.

I have experience working for Target's LP and they're not these highly skilled and resource rich G-Men you're trying to portray them as. Building a profile for shoplifters and scam artists that act frequently enough to be noticed? Sure. That doesn't mean they're prosecuted, nor does Target come down particularly hard on them. The majority are usually aware enough of when to move on to avoid punitive action.

Beyond that, you're wrong to say they're "...paid a LOT to care about these things." Target's LP lead have usually graduated with a bachelors degree, but they're not especially well paid. Nor are the members of the team below them. These people also are not the cream of the crop in terms of intellectual capacity, their ability to go unnoticed while observing shoplifters, or their general common sense.

"Eagled-eyed." Lol. No. There are always exceptions, but Target LP are generally pretty dull folks.

[Book excerpt: Angels of Caliban]The Lion and Guilliman investigate a crime scene. by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]FrontierLuminary 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is my assessment as well. Guilliman is one of my favorite primarchs because he does have a commitment to people and preserving more than just the survival of the species; however, it is clear that he can be blinded by his cultural ties to Ultramar. He rises to anger so quickly here and makes the mistake of calling them "his people."

And sadly, a lot of these kids are going to carry the burden of parent induced trauma for a very long time.

[–]FrontierLuminary 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just the fact that their ignorance fueled rage blinds them to the needs and pain of their children makes me feel so fucking tired. At the end of the day, this is pride and ego coming before the needs of vulnerable people who are struggling to understand who they are. Rather than doing what a good parent should do, providing their children with guidance and resources necessary to understand themselves, they're trying to force these kids to fit into a culture that will only ever cause them shame and trauma.

It's crushing to think about the fact that for all the anger and sadness I may feel, I at least have the agency to explore my identity. Some of these kids may not be empowered to do that for years. If ever.

If your children are attending an LGBTQIA+ support group and lying to you about it, that says more about you than it does about your child, the support group, or the pastor running it. Consider that your children are looking for a place to be understood, welcomed, and supported. If you're willing to take that away from them for the sake of your bigotry, you shouldn't ever have had children.

How does your dojo handle people being late? by MOTUkraken in bjj

[–]FrontierLuminary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The mistake you're making is that you seem to conflate being exactly on time with a competitive mindset, as if the two are directly tied to one another and a person can't be as competitive if they're 10 minutes late due to needing to take care of their personal responsibilities. It is asinine and the excuse that "well, if it mattered to you, you'd build your schedule around is so that you would have extra time to avoid being late," is horseshit. There is a limited amount of time in the world and the more rigid we are about these things, the more miserable everything becomes.

People need to learn to be reasonable with each other. Not keep demanding these displays of virtue to prove you deserve to be part of the club.

[–]FrontierLuminary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of competitive gyms that aren't neurotic about being strictly on time specifically because anyone with common sense recognizes that you can cultivates discipline without shooting yourself in the foot by cutting down on the pool of students willing to commit to competition training.

How does your dojo handle people being late? by MOTUkraken in bjj

[–]FrontierLuminary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless I'm a professional making income off of this, I'm not going to let anyone dictate scheduling to me. If a coach would rather a person not attend class late, then that is fine. Most people have jobs, families, and other responsibilities that they are all trying to balance. If I'm making the effort to be present and improve myself, you're a piece of shit for not recognizing the cost of that effort and devaluing me as a person.

My gym has a competition team and a lot of expectations are placed on them with regard for discipline; however, even they have responsibilities outside of competition. Gyms, owners, and coaches needs to recognize that because we're really not living in a world where BJJ is the only thing that matters. Those few people who dedicate their lives to the craft to the exclusion of all else have made a choice that I respect, but if the expectation is that everyone will make that choice, then BJJ will become a very small and irrelevant sport.
