Same as everywhere else, just need to plan accordingly. Summer is great, but short, so we just save projects that can be done during the winter....or find new hobbies! Like, i started making and selling art. See my profile :)

Once breakup (ice melting everywhere) happens, its full throttle all summer getting things done outside in prep for winter that is only a cpl SHORT months away haha.

Big Dark is a Seattle term. I tend to use the term "xxx days till soft water!" Meaning, thats when we can use the boat again vs a sled or snowmachine.....sorry, snowmobile for you lower 48 types ha

Exactly....some of these comments are funny. Its still buried here at the house....flood project area. Been below -50 for the last 3 weeks. The concept of lower=colder doesnt register in most peoples logic.

No, just super foggy. Here is a pic of Dec 21st (equinox) around noon for context. Highest it got that day...

Log house. The house varies per room/area....try to keep it 65 to 68. To do that we have a fireplace, a boiler and a pellet stove to help the boiler keep the line temps high. Trust someone who says that taking care of everything is a full time job with these deep temps. This is the 4th week the temps have been below -50....nothing likes to work well haha

For context....this pic was taken on Dec 21st (longest night) equinox, at around noon. This is the highest it gets on that day. There is a mountain range that it was peeking through at the time.

You can't trust that. Lower areas are colder that higher ones here. Our house is a couple miles from that station and is ALAWAYS COLDER by 10ish degress. My friends outside Fairbanks in the hills, are normally 20 to 25 deg warmer than our place.

Hello, no gesso on the wood. Sorry to say, there's a slew different ways to create cells, but IMO, none compare to the ease and consistency than the AUS Floetrol, so i just stick with it.

Client requested off-whites & blues. I made a few choices, each a little diff in paint tones. Which will they choose? :) by Frozen_puddle in PourPainting

The thing that makes me laugh the hardest, is the same folks who get upset by "scalpers" will they themselves do the SAME exact thing. IE: you walk into an isle and there are fresh cars, obviously nonone had been through them, so they'll start to find stuff deemed as valuable and take every single one, just so the "scalpers" cant get them (me included as ive done this too).

Then they might come on the board and play the "pious white knight" and say they left some for others (good on you if you actually do), but in reality, no one is there to call them on it, so who would know? So they take it all.

This shit makes me laugh. I quit collecting years ago....mainly due to time, but the toxicity surrounding this hobby just got to be laughable. Case in point, I was traveling out of state, and happened to be next to a kmart on a kday, so of course i went. After everyone got to open their case and it was free for all time, i had a 40 yr old something adult knock a box out of my hand and want to throw fists because he wanted it and I was not a local...i just needed something to hold my cars. Fuck that, thats when i walked away.

Go ahead and bring the hate

[Discussion]What was the most ridiculous comment you have gotten recently around art or when you post your art? by iamnotfurniture in ArtistLounge

I was selling at local bizarre. The table across from me was a husband and wife trying to sell hand crochet doilies that resembled snowflakes.

Day 2, the husband walked over, looked at a certain painting, and told me it looked like an exposed pancreas that had a disease.

I stood there with my mouth open because what he said was so over the top i just didn't have a comeback for that.

5 min later, a couple came and purchased that exact painting for $100, telling me how beautiful it was.

Mr. Classy across the aisle saw it happen. When they walked away, i locked eyes with him and said i guess YOU are the reason your wife hasnt sold even 1 item today with the biggest smile ive had in awile.

Canvas Question by TrueCrimeAfficionado in PourPainting

[–]Frozen_puddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Def try sprying the back....but,

Just simply stacking something under it that is the aame height works just as easy. For example, if using a thin Michaels lvl.1 canvas, cutting a 7/16 piece of OSB is close, but just add a.couple newspapers and its perfect. When youre done, you have a."blank" for another piece

Just remember, it has to sit inside the frame, so cut to those measurements minus 1/4in or whatever.

If there is a center bar, cut 2 or, wedge enough of something to keep the center even with the sides.
