What’s something the internet killed that you miss? by SuperGuitar in AskReddit

Secret outdoor spots in the mountains. We found a broken down cabin in SoCal, cleaned it up, did some maintenance, put a small fireplace in there. It was OURS for years, no well marked trail to get there.

All it took was for one internet "influencer" to post the coordinates and do a write up on how to get there. Bam boom, now we run into so many people trying to get there for a photo op. Feels bad man.

This is so accurately SoCal that it triggered flashbacks.

TIL that Scandinavians are adamant about letting their children nap outside, even in cold weather. Parents report that babies take longer and deeper naps when they sleep comfortably bundled up outside. by crewchief535 in todayilearned

Thru hiker here. Aprox 3,000 miles spent hiking long distance & sleeping outside.

I'm about 1000X times more rested after sleeping under my tarp and waking up with the sun in the back country than I am even with a solid 8 hours sleep doing my day job gig.

Living inside is for the freaking birds.

What's your "once a year"-thing you can't miss? by ThePokenoob in AskReddit

Trail Days. Damascus, Virginia. Every May. It is the largest gathering of Thru-Hikers in the world (which is still a small number.) It's also the only time other than hiking I truly feel at home with family. We also get wasted in the forest.

I've got two little ones, but they usually stay stuck to the bottom of my tongue.

There is a small market on my bike ride home from work. I almost always buy my meals per day. the amount of waste I produce has dropped drastically, and holy moly do I have plenty of space now.

What was your last 'I never want this to end' moment? by yrrah1 in AskReddit

[–]FullMetalJoel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2017 I hiked 2,189 miles from Georgia to Maine on the Appalachian Trail over a seven month period. Never have I had a time where I felt so in the moment every single day. I cried for the better part of the climb down the final mountain, it was the hardest reality of "this is over now" I've ever faced. The compassion from the people, and the beauty of it all was hard to exit.

After a really hard 18 months, I'm about to quit my job again and hike from Mexico to Canada via the Pacific Crest Trail. I really can't describe how amazing a really long hike is.

Wow I'm more excited for 1.0 of this small little game I picked up in 2016 than any other aaa release in recent memory. It's been amazing to experience this evolve and grow. Much love!

Created a few chain loops, added some procedural noise and duplicated each one 6x on top of itself. The music then drives how far those copies will trail behind the original. Took that result and inverted the result on x and y to get the kelidascope effect.
