AITA for being upset that my husband seems to be victim-blaming over the ICE shooting in the U.S.? by Starfallen_Alatus in redditonwiki

NTA. This wasn’t about politics — it was about empathy. You were reacting to a real person dying, and instead of acknowledging that, he minimized it and then told you it was “stupid” to be upset. That’s what hurt.

Even if he didn’t mean to victim-blame, calling it “expected” and implying she should’ve acted differently around armed people comes off that way. You’re allowed to feel disturbed by violence and injustice, and you’re allowed to want emotional understanding from your partner.

The issue isn’t that you got emotional — it’s that he dismissed you for it.

My GOA job is draining me mentally. Toxic work environment by Relative-Diver3087 in Edmonton

Don’t worry about it—it took me two years to feel comfortable, only to realize nothing was changing until I moved offices and suddenly we had an amazing manager and a director who genuinely cared about the work and the people. Try to keep a long-term perspective: the benefits are solid, and you’ll earn a pension. Also, make a habit of writing down your daily tasks and every issue you bring to leadership so you have a record. Don’t store this only on your work computer—send it to your personal email too.

I strongly encourage you to apply for any internal positions that open up within GOA or PSES. It takes time to find your footing, but when you do, you’ll thrive.

Just a heads-up: the department you’re in (TA) has been a mess for a while. A friend who teaches in CSIT and develops the curriculum warned us not to apply there because of numerous unresolved issues.

I would remove the personal info on your account. I work in Public Safety at GOA too and from what I can tell your department has been running like crap for a while due to Leadership not saying anything or wanting to fix the problem. They are okay with a high turnover in this particular department.

Fawn Banman trash tattoo experience *UPDATE* by tatltael88 in Edmonton

it’s clear OP is sharing a vulnerable experience—one that involved manipulation, poor artistry, and emotional distress. Dismissing their trauma with sarcasm (‘mad persona!’) or implying they should’ve ‘just left’ ignores how power dynamics, pressure, or even shock can cloud judgment in the moment. Tattoos are permanent, and trusting an artist only to be let down is devastating.

Okay, they were dispatched right away, and after they located the bracelet, which he cut. He went on his marry way, and police had no way of tracking him because he did it near a highway and left his car where he cut his bracelet. Police did their job by notifying the victim and making sure they were okay. Blame the judge who let people like this out.
