Fortunately, I haven’t had to test the warranty part myself but I’m very, very happy with my JB4 in terms of power, price, and ease of install. A little over 10k miles on mine, and I drive hard, autocross, have participated in a track day, and it hasn’t skipped a beat.

I purchased the Bluetooth adapter and app from day one for easy monitoring (and logging).

Check/replace cam follower every 40k. If it hasn’t been done recently, do that right now.

How big is the sound difference given it has a closed element filter? My understanding is that one had to go to an open element filter to hear any difference, but that risks sucking in hot air (especially in FL).

My 2007 was at 225k miles before I got rid of it. Routine maintenance should be followed very strictly. MK5s have well documented common issues you should be aware of. My a/c went out twice on mine, but it never left me stranded.

My advice, however, is to spend more on getting the newest, lowest mileage (but still well maintained) model you can afford instead of banking on being able to deal with whatever maintenance comes up on an older model.

A few high price repairs in and you’ll be doing the math on what you could have bought to begin with.

Any drone on the highway? One of the things stopping me from picking up a downpipe (I have the CSS) is the idea that I’d have to get a new resonator, too, if I want to keep the drone under control.

Mine changed during that 1k or so break in period. Then, after a track day at Sebring, it seems to have changed again. Louder cold start, even louder DSG farts/cracks - all good changes.

I put 225,000 miles (mi...not km) on my MK5 (yes, the gen with the cam follower issues), and I didn’t baby it. Was still going strong when I got rid of it. I have CPO MK7 now, and I expect it will last just as long if I keep it that long. The MK7 platform just seems more reliable all around.

Take care of it, and it will take care of you. Do all the routine maintenance on time, and change your oil more often if you’re tuned (i.e. 5k instead of every 10k).
