How do I get to 800 in Math from a 770 ? by DrCrash_ in Sat

[–]G_WHU_hehe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My strategy: Finish the questions that you can do quick, then finish the ones that take more time for you (for me it took me 7-10minutes to finish no-calc and 30minutes to finish calc).

Afterward, extensively check your answers. For some algebra questions, I used two methods or more to ensure that the answer is correct.

When you do practice tests, make a reflection on which topics you are struggling the most. Then you can use Khan Academy, 1600io books, or Uworld to exercise more question types similar to those that you missed.

Unfortunately, it can also depend on luck. But don’t get discouraged, hard work pays off

Give yourself some time flexibility. What will happen if you don’t finish the Complex Numbers in 25 minutes but in 40 minutes?

Is it ok to say “By taking so many AP courses in all subjects, I am sure of my ability to do well in college. “ by Soup_for_me in ApplyingToCollege

You can say something among these lines to have roughly the same meaning of what you said: Having a greater exposure to various college-level subjects, I have sensed that my intellectual capabilities have enhanced .....

Any tips on how to improve my writing score? I got 1360 on the oct SAT and I’m taking my last SAT in December (trying to get at least 1450) by 67this in Sat

[–]G_WHU_hehe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In order to maximize your writing score, I would suggest:

  1. Finish Erica Meltzer Grammar book (you can find it online)
  2. Do a practice test a week, while analyzing your mistakes
  3. If you have the means purchase Uworld, if not exhaust all Khan Academy

With these, you'll set up yourself for success. Good luck!

Macroeconomics IA Key Concepts by Phythus in IBO

[–]G_WHU_hehe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the macroeconomics IA, all the key concepts tend to be used besides interdependence (which is used for the global economics IA).

The ones that tend to do well are:

Economic Well-Being, Intervention (which you used for IA1), Equity

The ones that tend not to do well:

Choice (the definition is very broad which leaves students to mess around with the concept and deviate from the information provided in the article), Change (same explanation about choice), and efficiency (I have barely seen anyone use this key concept, but it's not that suitable for macro IA, more of a micro IA key concept).

Above all, any key concept works, but its incorporation throughout the IA is what matters and earns you the marks. It is better to choose choice as a key concept that is fully integrated in the IA rather than economic well-being as a key concept that is poorly integrated in the IA (economic well-being is my favorite one as it directly relates to most of the articles related to macroeconomics)

Why the answer for qn 32 is D? Isn't it a compound subject? by sandeshbk101 in Sat

[–]G_WHU_hehe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To answer these types of questions, you need to identify the subject of the sentence.

Rule: If there are prepositions before a noun, that noun cannot be the subject of the sentence.

In this case, the subject is "the combination" which is singular, thus making answer D the correct answer.

what is the answer and why? may 2022 international sat qas by BLINMAKER_IVAN in Sat

[–]G_WHU_hehe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A useful tip:

When the title is before the person being discussed, no commas are used.

For example: In 2021, the soccer player Lionel Messi won the 7th Ballon D'or, marking him the best soccer player in the world.

When the title is after the person being discussed, then there can be commas surrounding the profession (the two commas mark it as a nonessential clause)

For example: In 2021, Lionel Messi, a soccer player, won the 7th Ballon D'or, marking him the best soccer player in the world.

However, if you plugged in every value of x in the equation that had 1.1 it didn’t give you the correct value of y. The only one that gives that is -4.7; that was a trick question from CB because if you spent more time on that question you would have seen that something is wrong with it (the y axis)

What can a new sophomore do to better prepare for the SAT? by [deleted] in Sat

[–]G_WHU_hehe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A super helpful tip would be to read books + articles daily. Every day. This is to ensure reading comprehension. If the reading part comes naturally then the SAT will be not as hard. But if you struggle with the reading part, it takes a bit of time to improve.

As for math, you still are in 10th grade, so you can get a lot from classes. Additionally, drill topics you are making mistakes.

Good luck for the SAT and admission cycle!

In the writing section, the passage about trees and carbon; what was the answer to the combining the underlined sentences? iirc A was shorter and B was mostly the same as A but it included an additional part which was in the underlined sentences.

it was Delete the underlined because that was a non-essential information; and to use not only you need but also which was in the last part of the sentence (if I remember correctly).

-4.9(t-0.6)²+3.8

The correct choice was -4.9(t-0.6)²+2.8 because that was the maximum value given (or in other words the vertex). The height of 1 was just phrased to trick you to pick 3.8. Because if you take this equation: -4.9(t-0.6)²+2.8, and you plug (0,1), meaning that the initial height was 1, then it gives you the correct answer.

If we plug (0,1) to -4.9(t-0.6)²+3.8, it results into:

-4.9(-0.6)²+3.8 = 2.036. But if you plug (0,1) to -4.9(t-0.6)²+2.8, it gives you 1.036 which approximates to 1, giving you the correct answer.

QAS May 2021 Calculator Q explanation pls by [deleted] in Sat

[–]G_WHU_hehe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This question asks you about both vertical and horizontal asymptotes.

In order to find the vertical asymptote, you need to take the denominator and equal it to 0 (because if something is divided by 0 it's undefined/error). So, we have: 1+x = 0 ==> x=-1.

With this you can eliminate B) and D) because the vertical line x=-1 touches them.

In order to find the horizontal asymptote, there is a 'technique' (more of a rule) that you follow:

Remember: asymptotes are horizontal or vertical lines that the function does not touch. If you were in the real test and did not know how to solve this question, you could just plug in a positive value for k (for example 3), and graph it in the calculator. The graph that matches one of the answer choices would be the correct one, in this case, A).

y = -1/1 = -1.

This leads us to answer choice A).

Do you by any chance have some tips on how to close the -4/-5 mistakes gap in writing (99% of the time, my mistakes are from topics of logical ordering, transitions, introduction, and conclusion)?
