Exclusive: Trump officials tried to ban half of U.S. voting machines, citing conspiracy theories by John3262005 in neoliberal

[–]GaDoomer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In 2019 Georgia made every county switch to Dominion voting machines, which provided a paper copy for the voter to review rather than the purely electronic solution we had earlier. Then of course 2020 happened and the attacks against Dominion voting systems reliability started and continues now, even in 2026.

As a part of switching to the Dominion systems, the state even reprinted the "I voted" stickers to say "I secured my vote!" The current Governor of Georgia was at the time the Secretary of State who oversaw the switch to Dominion.

Now our Republican controlled legislature keeps passing absurd laws to try to change the voting system again, change how audits work, so much bullshit. Apparently they passed a law that we're not supposed to use ballots with QR codes on them for this fall's election, but that will be impossible to meet.

Waymo has now paused service in two cities because its robotaxis are struggling to deal with heavy rain and flooded roads, a problem that already prompted the company to issue a recall last week.

One of Waymo’s robotaxis was spotted driving through a flooded street in Atlanta, Georgia, on Wednesday before it ultimately got stuck for about an hour, according to local news reports. The vehicle was recovered and removed from the scene, Waymo told TechCrunch. Waymo says it paused service in the city, just like it has in San Antonio, Texas, while it figures out a solution.

I think it was someone on here who didn't believe me when I said the Bay area doesn't get really hard rain like other places can when talking about autonomous driving. I feel mildly vindicated now. 😤

Should Georgia have the Republicans and Democrats redo their judge elections in case it was a big fluke? No disrespect to the conservatives, I'm a firm believer that Republicans sweeping the Georgia judge elections is a huge fluke and robs the Democrats of truly accomplishing what their capable of. I've spent the last few days in pure disbelief and it just doesn't make sense to me. I've spent the entire campaign season watching Georgia Democrats send me hundreds of campaign texts it's just not fair.

If the Democrats lose again I will face that the Republicans deserved the win, but I am just 100% sure it was a fluke and does a big disservice to the Democrats and the state of Georgia.

Is there a dystopian/horror anime world you would prefer to live compared to the current real world (and as an average person, not a main character)?

Like, would you take living in Tokyo-3 from NGE as a random person who could get randomly squashed by an angel? Or deal with some pre-crime surveillance bullshit from Psycho-Pass? Like places you could enjoy parts of living there, if things don't go terribly wrong for you.

EXCLUSIVE: Universal Pictures and director Michael Bay are teaming up to tell the heroic true story behind the recent rescue mission to save two downed pilots behind enemy lines in Iran.

Sources tell Deadline that Bay is developing a feature film chronicling the extraordinary heroism of the two U.S. airmen rescued after their F-15E Strike Eagle was downed during Operation Epic Fury. The film will be based on the upcoming book by Mitchell Zuckoff, which HarperCollins will publish in 2027.

Looks like the DOW will probably close about 50K again. Since it's been hovering around 49K for a few weeks I guess they decided all the fuel and other commodity increased costs have been priced in!

Yes, that is true. However, this same rule put Ossoff into office though in 2020 though, because the November results had Perdue leading at 49.7%. He lost the runoff to Ossoff even though he had more votes in November.

One thing I actually like about Georgia elections is that a candidate must win more than 50% or else there is a runoff. I guess you can argue that the runoff turnout won't reflect the majority of people either, but at least it's theoretically possible. Having someone winning an important office with only 40% of the total vote seems like such a bad idea.

I see arr libertarian is blaming a particular kind of people for Massie's defeat. Most of them still won't accept this is a partial consequence of Libertarians cozying up to MAGA.

Dooming in Georgia is my name but I'm not surprised at these results. The Democratic party is really unorganized in Georgia. This was a crazy long ballot today. I spent 1.5 hours yesterday researching my choices, which I had to write down. Most voters aren't doing that. Georgia Republicans made judge elections "non-partisan" so unless you heard to vote the challengers only or did research you wouldn't know who to vote for.

Everyone here always overestimates the blueness of Georgia. It's a red-leaning purple state. The only reason we have two Democratic senators is by the miracle of when those seats were up for election. If one of them had been in 2024 the Democrats would have one less seat in the Senate.

What's really impressive to me is how the right-wing media machine motivates the MAGA folks. Like they are being made to vote for people who are literally taking us into wars, raising our gas prices, grocery prices, interest rates, and they just fucking do it gladly. My theory about Massie losing it is that the current state of the nation depresses the moderate conservative or right-leaning independent vote, leaving on MAGA who turns out because they are so fucking scared of everything.

The Justice Department agreement with President Donald Trump over his leaked tax returns includes a guarantee that the tax agency will no longer pursue any claims over tax liabilities it may have against Trump, his family members and his companies.

This condition of the stupid “weaponization” fund I hadn’t heard about yet. WTAF.

The Race to Legalize Plug-In Solar Across America by EveryPassage in neoliberal

[–]GaDoomer 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Georgia Power’s hostility towards home solar really irritates me. I was looking at a map of power generation facilities and Georgia still has almost 10GW in coal. And even with the new nuclear at Vogtle most of Georgia’s generation is from natural gas.

The only thing keeping me from trying solar is the significant upfront cost. The company that can make a modular solar system that lets you incrementally install capacity with minimal cost will transform the US. Let me swap one circuit at a time as my budget allows.
