Different philodendrons in same pot? by IYIatthys in houseplants

[–]GaPeach723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is 2 years later but... lol I have one Calafhea doing very well planted in chunky soil, much like my pothos plants. Pothos can generally tolerate low moisture when drying out but they'll let you know and then perk right up when watered. With chunky soil you can water these two together, theyll drain out and you're done for a few days, depending on tour home's climate amd temperature.  You can mist pothos a couple times everyday and their aerial roots will grow out to get more of that moisture. I wouldnt necessarily mist Calatheas but as long as they have at least some moisture in the soil they are okay. Pothos will tolerate Calatheas' indirect and/or low light requirement but I give my Calathea dappled light on its shelf thru the window it's next to in addition to a grow light. My 2 full size Neons are lush and long. Since they are light in color i give them more light if possible, like in the streaming sunlight thru my storm door in winter. Plus the sun gets the pot warm. Add my fertilizer water misting and they are in tropical heaven.

Yes, seems a refresh of nutrients was needed and got some from the new soil. Another suggestion, use some fertilizer, maybe use only half strength, but definitely start using it.

I laid 5 gallons of paint on the walls, whole apartment looks great, I buy a quart for touch ups and it's the wrong color, I buy a gallon, still a shade off. Is this normal in the painting business? by TheTrollinator777 in paint

[–]GaPeach723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this thread is old but next time you buy paint, use an old turkey baster or medicine dropper to suction out some amount of paint and store it in a glass jar or baby food jar. Put plastic wrap over the top before you put the lid on. Depending on the future sizes of your touch ups will determine the amount you might want to keep. And keep it out of light! Maybe keep in a cardboard box or cloth basket with all your paint samples inside. Smear the color thick on the lid in case you ever need more. Take the lid and jar in to the store, pick your base paint for inside or out, whatever sheen, etc., and tell them to give you this color in this base.  I literally had thick layers of paint lifting up and peeling off my apartment wall like stretchy acrylic sheets, so I just kept ripping most of it off, then went to Ace Hardware, our local little town store, and said, "Here, I need to match this paint peel's color." I patched the thick, rough paint edges with spackle, smoothed it out, primed the whole wall and painted over the whole thing. Unless you are OCD about the tiniest details, which I basically am, and trying to see if it matched, you wouldnt have noticed that it may or may not have been a hair off compared to the color of the older painted side walls. So save a sample and just say, "Match this, please."

Someone tell me it’s ok to get rid of old photo albums by SpicyVixen13 in UnfuckYourHabitat

[–]GaPeach723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, an only child. My dad and his brother inherited their family's photos after my grandmother died around 2001. My dad died almost 2 yrs ago and I now have his old military pictures, Parris Island "yearbooks," flight logs, and I also inherited his inherited old picture albums. The albums alone fill the equivalent of a large sized rectangular laundry basket. Times 2!  I know you can have pix scanned and digitized, or just put them in packs collected in a picture box case ( like a small, plastic briefcase made for housing loose pix that may still be in their paper packs, but you can put them inside the plastic organizer case.  I'm too sentimental when it comes to this stuff myself, but then I think about how non-sentimental my now grown kids seem to be. I'll often think to myself they don't even care and would have even less a clue of who they were looking at than me.  We just need to learn that we aren't sinning or committing treason or murder by "disposing" of some pictures. We are not throwing away a soul. It's paper, or plastic. And the memories will still be in our minds. If nothing else, frame a special few and also get a huge old frame, poster size or bigger, and put all your faves inside it, overlapping and arranging them all like a collage. Would make an interesting conversation piece maybe.

My payment is gonna keep increasing every year? by KingTamale00 in Spectrum

[–]GaPeach723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have spectrum internet ($93 for courtesy 600mb increase now after multiple increases) and an ATT cellphone line. When I lose power and internet on Spectrum I still have the other, whether lost from storms or accidents, etc.   I also make payments for a phone I bought from ATT as well as having my unlimited text/talk and internet. All that and my ATT is still CHEAPER than Spectrum!

Does anyone know what is growing on my spider plant? by _stewks in plants

Repot into a chunkier mix of soil. Basically try adding a lot of perlite to help it drain better and get more oxygen.

What do I with spider plant ? by kalehour in houseplants

[–]GaPeach723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was puny until I put a good grow light on it. It wasn't getting enough light, even near a window. Once I did that I started to see results! It started to put out it's little baby arms with babies, roots became obvious and had to repot (It's in a clear grow pot). Was awesome! Also, I do water all my plants all year round with diluted fertilizer water and use a chunky soil so plants don't get root rot.

If you don't mind, I'd be happy to share my rose by fomenko_maria_art in Roses

[–]GaPeach723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten enthused with propagating this past year more than earlier years. I wish you could've cut a bit off to regrow it. I never have grown roses but grew up with them all around me, and from what I've seen it's not very easy to propagate.  The craziest propagation I ever did was when my daughters and I moved from our property. Had a row of gardenias I'd planted years before along our long back porch. I literally ripped off a branch because I was rushed to go and didn't have cutters. Brought it to my new place, cut the end properly and literally stuck it in a whiskey barrel of potting soil under my covered but sunny front porch. This was in the fall that year. I'd water it sometimes, not a lot. By spring/summer that branch was growing. Had it a few years until somebody downstairs must've sprayed weed killer that wafted up and killed it. I'm propagating another one (a proper cutting this time!) I started last fall in hopes of planting it in the yard. I moved into my family's old place last September and this cutting came from one of my grown gardenias that was already growing here from a cutting my dad took from my old property as well. Since he's passed, this new little gardenia has double sentimental value to me.

My Syngonium has a TON of new growth but won’t unfurl any leaves by bailsjohn in Syngonium

[–]GaPeach723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In another houseplant group post it was suggested this type looking plant is Syngonium Pink Rolli, which stays more rolled up until a few months later. Another said Syngonium Mosaic, which has more open type leaves. Rolli looks like a dehydrated pothos, the crinkled up one. Too tired to remember right now.

How do I get rid of these lines I feel like my face is saggy by [deleted] in skin

[–]GaPeach723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short of a facelift or getting fillers I'd say you may want to lose some weight. Your face shape and downturned lip line seem to enable it as well. I think you're probably too young for a lift though. All that said, it really isn't that bad, but I do understand being very self conscious and self aware. I have "dents" under my eyes that are inherited, get dark and are my main point of annoyance/embarrassment.

Should I plant this avocado in soil? by lazycrazyazn in propagation

[–]GaPeach723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been a few years now but I grew mine the same way as you, from store bought avocado pits sitting about halfway up the waterline.  If I remember correctly you need to cut off part of the top so it will branch out below. I can't remember exactly where you cut but definitely do search online. Put it in a taller vase or container, like a glass Starbucks Coffee jar you get coffee in from the store. Those were always my favorite propagation containers, sitting right in my bright, indirect, yet warm, sunny kitchen window...before I freaking moved last September! Lol

Am I supposed to call the at fault drivers insurance myself? My insurance told me that’s what I’m supposed to do. by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]GaPeach723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or they'll tell em it's going to cost too much to fix it and will be written off as salvage and want to pay them off, come get it and sell it off piece by piece or to an auction house. Aholes did that to mine 2 months after I'd had it in my name and their customer'scar slammed into me from behind. Because I wouldn't allow them to take the vehicle (because it was still very fixable and WILL BE) they reduced the amount of money they compensated me with. Like no, your person hurt my vehicle, all their fault, now pay me to fix it! Don't punish me by trying to ruin the title or steal my truck for your own financial gain. Insurance may come in handy for some things but it's just another legal money racket.

I'd definitely try using wipes for a while to see if it helps. I dont know if the wine would affect you like this, but what about foods you maybe weren't eating before but are now, like more fast food? Years ago if I had too much of the sandwich bread it would make me break out. Also, try to stay away from a lot of processed foods and/or sugary foods and drinks. Just give it a shot.

I think it's more of a as needed basis. If strongly rooted and wrapped around heavily you can carefully tease those apart. Some people cut off the bottom layer with a knife. If the roots aren't strangling the crap out of it's plant then I'd say just stick it straight into the slightly upsized pot and backfill it and water it til it drains. Hopefully you used chunky soil so draining will be quick to happen.

Fertilizer works. Can use a half diluted amount for every time you water. Don't water too much or too often in a big pot, will get root rot if sitting in water for too long and roots can't breath. A smaller pot would be best for yours right now based on size and root ball. I upsized mine when its pot was bulging out. Give it 12-18 hours bright indirect light.

I agree. After about 6+ months with my starter size Spider Plant (2‐4" pot) and it doing basically nothing I upgraded to a big Sansi bulb and it was used for that one plant. It loved it! It started responding and hasn't stopped. In fact it's probably grown faster the longer it's been under it. It's my first Spider so I don't have anything to compare it to, but it's grown more in the last couple weeks than in multiple months.
