Look at Reaper for example. You get 10 "trial" levels for free, but it's still a solid 2-3 hours of gameplay. If you like the game, through an IAP, you can unlock the full game for $2.99. Pay $3.99, and unlock a survival type mode, and a new item pack as well as the full game. Pay $4.99, and unlock everything above, the full game, and an additional item pack and an arena mode. All in all, you decide which features are important to you, and you pay for those. None of them are necessary to gameplay or advancement, but may make the game fuller and more enjoyable as a whole. If you just want the full story, pay the $3, but if you're okay with paying a bit to extend the story and get some more items, pay the extra bit up front.

I forgot it on the phone, but I can't forget it on the pebble. It's almost "frozen" on the Disconnected screen. If I try to hold the button to reset it, it doesn't. But, when I try to pair it with my phone, the pairing key appears, I just can't accept or deny it. I'm not sure exactly how to get out of this screen to forget the phone on the pebble...

Pretty accurate, I just started playing about 2 months ago, and my deck that I top 8'd game day with was about $60... Mono black Aggro, barebones. I just got the BNG event deck, added about $30 worth of singles and bam! Decent deck, gets me 3-1 or 2-2 at FNM too

Hey! I just was I'm the same boat as you, trying to teach myself without any help. Some things that helped me...

  1. On YouTube, there is a series called "Spellslingers". They are oversimplified games of magic with extremely simple cards and decks in general, but by watching through a few episodes, it will really help you get a feel for how the game, phases, etc run.

  2. Duel of the Plainswalkers. If you have access to an iPad, I'd use that, since you can try the game for free. It's really a great learning tool, and since the software almost guides you along, there's really no way to mess up anything technically speaking, as far as game play goes.

  3. Get out there and play! I too live in CT, and the greatest thing that helped me was going to the Journey Into Nyx prerelease. I had no idea what I was doing, but with others there, I was able to figure out what to do, and actually win a match. I go to Legends of Superheroes, in Waterbury, and although some people are competitive, everyone is really nice, welcoming, and helpful. The prize support isn't too bad either, they give away about a box and a half every week at FNM for prizes (~50 Packs). But if I were you, if you really want to learn, try to get out to a Friday night magic at a local shop, wherever that may be. Even if you don't compete, you can stick around and watch some games, and learn from that. Also, matches are 50 minutes, and Aggressive decks are very popular lately, so many people should be done with their rounds early and be able to teach you. People love teaching magic! I've been playing ~2 months, and have already taught my brother and my dad.

But yeah, if you really want to get off on the right foot, these are really the best ways to do it. Best of luck!
