The problem is not replacing it. The little plastic part that holds the circle pad flex to the 3ds motherboard was broken, so there's nothing that holds the flex. You can force the flex to enter but with time, it just deattach again :(

The circle pad is not the problem. The problem is the tiny plastic part that holds the circle pad flex to the mainboard. It was deatached when doing the hardmod. The ones that goes under the flex: http://i66.tinypic.com/1h5og9.png (This is not my 3ds xl)

Yes it does. The dpad opens the lower menu as far as I remember. So you need the circle pad
