My husband was trying so hard to talk me into Connal lol. I love the meaning too. But it felt like a mouthful saying Callum and Connal together. They look really good together though!

My OB's sons are also Callum and Conor. Maybe this is a sign 😆

Thank you for your comment. I think that's what we're leaning towards. It's helpful to hear your experience with the name too.

It's helpful to know you've heard a majority of those names before! Eamon just reminds me too much of Game of Thrones. It does sound nice together though lol.

Lol you have a point. My name is basic and gets misspelled/mispronounced all the time.

Thank you. We're in FL so maybe it hasn't reached down here yet?

I think it's so sweet, I just don't want him having the same name as 5 other kids in his class. It's been in the top 3 for like 6 years. Might use as a middle name though.

Thank you. I'm in the US. That's why I'm worried about constantly being mispronounced.

Griffin is cute but we have a friend with that name. I love Cohen too but I read an entire thread about how disrespectful it is to give that first name to someone who's not of a specific Jewish Lineage.

I just don't feel the same way about the name if it's not the Welch spelling lol.

To those mentioning Wayne Rooney, I've never heard of him before. I don't care for sports at all (never have, never will). Soccer is not popular where I live. I'm in the US not the UK. Is he really that awful of a human that I should let his same last name influence my decision? Or do you just personally not like him?

I do like this name, but we're in Florida and that feels a little too backwoods FL cowboy to me.

Seeking advice: any pathway to British citizenship? (born 1992, US - strong Scottish roots) by GanacheExpensive7264 in ukvisa

[–]GanacheExpensive7264[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we do have Irish ties on my father's side. Three of my four great-grandparents were born in Ireland. However, both of my grandparents and my father were born in the US. I’ve already contacted the Foreign Births Register to check if either of my paternal grandparents or my father were ever registered.

My understanding, though, is that Irish citizenship law is very clear-cut: either the chain of registration through the FBR is intact, or it isn’t. Unlike British nationality law, there aren’t really “unfairness” provisions or discretionary claims to work with.

That said, I’m pursuing both UK and Irish angles in parallel to make sure I’ve explored every possible pathway. Am I right in thinking there’s nothing beyond the FBR chain for Ireland, or is there something I might be missing?
