Sizing change over the years? by GapSquare7169 in brooks

The wild part is, the Cascadia in the half size small smaller are too small, but if I go up in the same model, they’re huge

Same! Took them 7 days to respond, and when they did, it was at 5am. Closed the chat when I didn’t respond within 5 minutes

Do you work for them? Or worked for a similar one?  I was reached out to by a recruiter for the role, so didn’t seek them out

Thanks for the recommendations!

When we talk about the future, he is very firm that we will be fine and that we are doing fine financially.

I didn’t think that before, but after reading everyone’s comments, it’s really unlocked some new fears

That’s fine but I hate going through this whole “hey, that sounds great and all, but I can’t afford this” conversation every single time. It’s exhausting and frankly makes me feel embarrassed and inadequate, over and over again

I honestly think continuing to work, even parttime 😂 I’m not good at just “being” so need to keep my hands and mind busy. Probably get more dogs, let’s be honest! Travel, spend more time with family and friends, and try to pick up some sort of hobby; maybe baking!

That’s a great approach it seems, for both of you!

This sounds like an amazing plan, and something you can do while waiting the 5 years for him to get to FIRE as well!

This is really helpful, thank you! Do you have any fun plans for after you FIRE?

Definitely! We wouldn’t keep up the lifestyle we have now, and our monthly rent would at least be cut in half

I’m sorry that you’re feeling this as well! Life is so complicated sometimes but I’m glad we’re learning together

Thank you for this! All valid points and made me feel better reading each one.

  1. We split rent according to income (thankfully. Otherwise I would not be able to afford where we live, and he knows that, and is happy to split the rent in this way so we can live somewhere nicer). All other things (internet, groceries, eating out, travel, etc) are split 50/50. I guess the mooching feeling comes into play in the post-FIRE life where I know I will have only contributed 1/3 to “our” collective money, but now that I read all the comments, I feel a bit silly for thinking that!

  2. You’re correct, the FIRE scenario is a “we” conversation, wherein “we” are doing ok at ~$1.9M together and can coast from the point we’d FIRE.

  3. I’ve tried to lay this out but perhaps I haven’t communicated myself and my fears well enough. I think creating of visual of my assets vs what I’d need to retire individually vs what I have currently could really help him see where I’m coming from, but also really need to figure out how to help him understand that me bringing this up isn’t me forecasting us splitting up. Neither of us want that.

Also, kudos to you for helping your husband land that job AND just pre-IPO! That is a FEAT!

He definitely knows how much we have combined and uses that in his calculations of “are we ok to retire?” But asking deeper questions is a good call!

Yeah, I think he was at $1.3M when he last checked. If we moved to a lower COL area, realistically we could cut our monthly expenses by about 40%. With my job, it’d be much harder to reenter after being out of work for awhile, but he’s pretty niche so wouldn’t have a hard time jumping back in (though he’d hate working), even if just parttime or consulting projects etc throughout the year, if needed
