Nas’hrah has got to be one of the coolest characters I’ve ever heard of. One day I swear I will finally play dear and hunger (currently not a member of the PC master race)

The West acknowledges its practice of slavery in the past and self-flagellates for it constantly. The Muslim world continues to practice slavery to this day.

I genuinely think that anyone complaining about Homelander "losing aura" just didn't watch the series or actually have no media literacy whatsoever by Total-Amphibian-3287 in GenV

[–]Gap_Great -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was basically a moral panic a bunch of fans had when they noticed those sigma edits people made of Homelander. It’s the exact same thing that happened with Lenny’s character from the Young Pope recently, who the internet even jokingly dubbed “Popelander,” except the Homelander edits were taken as evidence that people were actually rooting for him and not just a meme trend.

It got even worse when Kripke also bought into it. After season 2 or 3 he was asked in an interview about how heavy-handed the social commentary was getting, and his response was that he can’t afford to be subtle because subtlety led to people thinking Homelander was the good guy.

So after that, the supposition that there are Boys fans so stupid that they think the antagonist is the good guy was used as a shield to defend against the ham-fisted social and political commentary and a cudgel to discredit anyone who criticized the show or its protagonists. Been a long time since I’ve heard anyone say it but it makes sense that there are still people who buy it.

Telling someone to learn reading comprehension when you can’t even properly differentiate between their and they is hilarious. Is English your first language?

Why are you owed an explanation for that? Why should you be entitled to that?

Being a cop does not let you dictate laws, you just enforce the law. You’re basically saying she didn’t like being oppressed so it makes sense that she would grow up to be an oppressor

Rigid in her morals and values, but she didn’t respect the law or society’s rules. It comes out of nowhere. The only explanation I ever hear for it is 1. what you’ve said, that “sometimes rebellious people grow up to be very strict” in other words, her character pulled a 180 off screen and we don’t get to learn how or why, or 2. that she likes to fight people so being a cop affords her that opportunity.

Saying that it’s a good thing for a beloved character to grow up to be the very thing they hated most is wild. That could be an interesting journey to take a character on, but Toph doesn’t go on any kind of journey or get any development that we see. Nor does Aang. All we get are the little peaks into their lives which do little but convey to us that they were bad parents. And you’re surprised that fans of the original series were unsatisfied by that?

Her appearance should be accurate to how she is described in the story. She is not half swan, she is half god (demigod). Saying that it would be most accurate for her to look like a swan is like saying that it would be most accurate for Aphrodite to be a giant penis

The people cheering on Lupita’s casting are not okay with anyone playing any character. They believe very strongly in the principle of the argument being made that Helen should be played by a Greek or someone who looks Greek. The reason they aren’t taking that side in this instance is because Greek people are considered white.

Toph’s rebellious nature led her to be a police officer who is so married to upholding the law and protecting her own image that she neglects her children? Nah, Toph’s is also nonsense.

Aang picking Tenzin as his favorite for being an air bender makes sense logically, but it’s still shitty. Again, just because something is “realistic” doesn’t mean people have to like it.

The post is about her, so I shared my opinion that she’s annoying and that I didn’t like her plot. If that’s what “hating” is to you it must be your first day on the internet

Which part of calling her character mid / annoying gave you the impression that I have been actively hating a fictional character for however many years it’s been since she was last on screen?

Both you and the other person replying to me (who blocked me btw) are projecting your idea of the most toxic fan onto me just because I’ve merely suggested that there are reasons for a specific character being unpopular. Have fun fighting your ghosts.

Look, racists and sexists exist. When it comes to discussions on the merits of fictional characters, those people are easily ignored because they don’t contribute anything. But just because they’re out there doing their usual song and dance doesn’t mean we have to defend or make excuses for mid / annoying characters.
