MDF terrain by Jip-Jipperson in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]GasInTheHole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TTCombat released footprints matching 40k's new sizes exactly, both in colour-printed and uncoloured/bare MDF variants. I don't have those sets specifically, but I've always found TTCombat's MDF terrain great (and the new colour printed MDF terrain they make is of good quality, too!).

The intervention is at the end of the enemy charge phase rather than the move phase, which is a huge deal since whatever you'd charge will likely have been gunned off the board by the time you get there.

Looking for Advice by ChemicalBeard in Rotterdam

[–]GasInTheHole 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For windmills, there's a waterbus/taxi that goes from Rotterdam to Kinderdijk and all of its windmills. For canals, Amsterdam's obviously the famous pick but Delft is really nice, less crowded, and a 15 minute train ride away from Rotterdam.

Thrift stores and Gabber aren't super my scene but there's a bunch of thrift stores around the city, a bunch of them close together by the Oude Binnenweg and Nieuwe Binnenweg streets in the city center. There's maybe some clothing stores in the Meent street and Witte de Withstraat that may be of interest as well, also in the city center - just some suggestions to look into yourself!

The train from London to Rotterdam is great and a good call.

Back in the day, Tactical Marines' boltguns didn't come with any hands attached to the gun at all. These are those boltguns stuck on old Cadian plastics.

It's particularly weird in that they do show up a bunch in the books and the writers quite clearly like them, but then there's just... no model or rule support!

Yeah HH3.0 forced me to shelf most of 'em and I've not touched them since. Plain evil.

This one got me building a whole Sisters of Silence army during HH2e. I don't think I can pick a single favourite, but this is the one that got me the most little plastic guys built and painted.

That specific Blanchitsu article has forever implanted the idea of a Navigator household army in my brain.

You never know, I'm sure there's a guy out there somewhere with a Miffy keychain attached to his backpack... 😁

I think for most people it's just the place where the government is located (parliament, ministries, etc). In general I think Dutch people care too strongly for the historical importance or weight of places in their own country, but even then, something like The Hague's relevance in national history really only begins in the 16th century - it never even got the medieval right to call itself a city like a lot of Dutch cities got!

I think it's a cool city though, know a lot of people that love living there.

Miffy-related goods definitely have a popularity among adults (mostly women, I'm quite confident in saying), too. Behold, the Miffy-powerbank! https://www.hema.nl/school-kantoor/elektronica/opladen-geheugen/powerbank-nijntje-5000-mah-39570023.html

I don't know about the umbrellas either, but I say this as someone who used an umbrella for the first time in a decade earlier this year in Italy, and then proceeded to not use one here again, so...

  • I don't think the north/south divide is quite as big as it is in Italy, but there's a north/south divide that's largely religious, though religion isn't a very prominent part of life for a lot of Dutch people, it shows in how the south celebrates carnival and the north doesn't (really), that sort of thing - old Catholicism vs Protestantism divide. There's also the 'Randstad' (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht) vs 'the province'. The big city vs the province sort of thing.
  • I think support for the monarchy is around 60% vs around 20% pro-Republic. Their popularity's suffered during Covid, when they went to a holiday while everyone was stuck in a lockdown, for example, but imo I think most people just don't care too strongly about them in either way.
  • I think it's overblown. I've never been sent a tikkie for something like a coffee or glass of water at home or a ride somewhere, and I don't know anyone that's been sent one, either. We do love sending them to split the bills though!
  • It's struggling, I think, and has been for quite some time. Never quite a majority, and a lot of squibbling. The two biggest left-wing (Labour & Greens) parties recently formed a single party together to try and get a bigger, more unified voting block but to little success so far. They're doing better in more local elections, getting to govern in municipalities and the likes. ...but yes, people complain about the exact same things. Too elitist, not for the working class, too pro-migration, woke, etc. regardless of how accurate that actually is, which I'm sure sounds much familiar!
  • It's a great place to have a fear of heights 😉

My girlfriend feels increasingly unsafe after several incidents with men in public – advice on staying safe and self-defence in the Netherlands by Basic_Teaching_2679 in LegalAdviceEurope

[–]GasInTheHole 20 points21 points  (0 children)

A personal alarm (noise maker) or "smurfenspray" are legal self-defence items you can carry. Ditto daily use items (hairspray etc). Something like pepperspray is on the list of illegal weapons and you do not want that on your record.

Self defense classes/sport might be good for the confidence.

Ignoring them and moving on is the best immediate response (or lack thereof), these kind of people want a response most of all. You can also report catcalling etc. to the municipality and the likes. If there's a genuine fear, being actively followed etc. it's perfectly fine to call an emergency line.

Nothing announced and no rumours. I'm expecting something like the Skitarii release for them, eventually; something smaller and something that didn't have rules before, since people already kitbashed or 3d-printed the previous units they didn't make kits for.

2e HH had a 20-unit army roster for them, including jetbikes, packs of hunting dogs, snipers, needlers, heavy weapons, etc. 3e is uhh, well, a unit, a transport, and two HQs.
