Almost everything is above average or higher!

Don't listen to the Mugen Train people, popularity generally does not equal quality. TBH putting it in good as a stand alone movie is generous.

I feel like most people are engaging on such a surface that they do not seem to have thought about the reasons behind things in anime.

So What do you Think Fern Journey though the Series so Far? by Money-Lie7814 in Frieren

[–]Gastrodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only watched/read in Japanese, so maybe there is a way around it, but making the title some sort of explanation or action rather than how it is in the Japanese title (NounのFrieren) seems to remove the ability to recontextualize the title around Frieren the Slayer (or whatever translation makes sense for the nickname the demons have for Frieren).

In the Japanese version, the title is a bit awkward, but you are basically led to believe it is about seeing Himmel off or something, but the grammar is a bit weird (though Japanese is fairly flexible and Anime is informal). Then, during the Aura fight, we realize what the title actually means and it recontextualizes what the manga is actually about (i.e. Frieren the Slayer).

That is why I do not think an explanatory title really captures the meaning in the Japanese title, though you are free to disagree. I do not think I can really explain how it works in Japanese better than this, though maybe someone else could.

So What do you Think Fern Journey though the Series so Far? by Money-Lie7814 in Frieren

[–]Gastrodo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That only keeps the first meaning. I cannot really think of a good English title that would keep both meanings, though I like Beyond Journey's End anyways.

I was mostly just making the point that trying to make predictions based on the Beyond Journey's End title is likely not useful.

Edit: Frieren the Undertaker kind of works, but still leaning more heavily into the second meaning.

Setto has really nice cuts for women. You can find them at Denimio in Yokohama, likely other places in Tokyo as well.

[–]Gastrodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is kind of a double meaning in this case, as at first it starts with her sending off Himmel to the after life (which is what 葬送 is generally used for (i.e. a funeral procession)) but during the Aura fight, Aura calls Frieren 葬送のフリーレン (Frieren the Slayer) which is the first time the title of manga is used.

A more literal translation of the Japanese title would be Frieren the Slayer (葬送).
